Overview

You know, I will never quite be used to seeing that smile on that face of his. In fact, his entire person throws me off. It's jarring, actually. Especially when knowing who his counterpart was back home. It's oddly refreshing.

From what I've witnessed first hand, Joo-Hwan Gyeon is probably the most likable student in his grade. Not only does he get along with all his classmates extremely well, making sure to include people to the best of his abilities, but his personality is quite literally a ray of light. When basking in it, it's blinding. Joo-Hwan does have class clown tendancies however, but most his instructors know that he means well at the end of the day. As a ball of energy, he needs to put that somewhere I suppose.

Additionally, I have noticed that he seems to be acting a bit more mature lately, being aware of his surroundings like never before. I wonder what may be the cause...

Notes
  • A lot of his lazier classmates who don't want to bother learning the proper pronunciation of his name just call him 'John' for short. He doesn't seem to mind all that much, though.
  • Basketball has been his favorite sport ever since a young age, and he's pretty good at it. In fact, he has been on our school's team since his freshman year.
  • When Girl Scout Cookie season rears its head around the corner and our female students who are apart of the group take their classmates orders, Joo-Hwan is usually the first to buy—and in bulk. His favorites are Adventurefuls and Samoas.
  • He has started several YouTube channels that have never gone anywhere before. None of them have been successful, because of course they wouldn't be.
  • Joo-Hwan wasn't initially one for going to the gym, but the idea grew on him the older he got.
Relationships
Melody Harun Step Sister
Joo-Hwan and Melody initially didn't get along very well, especailly before their parents got married. However, the duo have grown to care about each other very much. The older they've gotten, the less stiff they've become towards each other. In fact, they are a pretty playful duo and do a lot of joking around. Their parents have actually told me how relieved they are about it. Considering ██████ and ██████ heavily despised one another back on Akwan, it's rather nice to see.
Harmony Harun Step Sister
Unlike Joo-Hwan and Melody, Joo-Hwan and Harmony still have quite the rocky relationship with one another. Some days it's good, some days it's bad. Honestly, it truly does fluctuate depending on their moods or just the day in general. On their better days however, these two tend to play off of one another really well. On their worse days on the other hand, either Caden or Augustus have to practically rip her hands off of him. I won't lie, it is honestly a bit funny to see play out.
Caden Delgado Best Friend
Caden is like the rabid dog Joo-Hwan has to keep a tight leash on. He has kept Caden out of trouble ever since they were children, preventing him from getting into physical fights with Laurence Leiberman on multiple occasions. Caden is also one to roughhouse with Joo-Hwan, more so than with his other friends, which is another factor of their relationship that has been prevalent since their days back in the charter school. It is very much unlike how ██████ was with ██████ back on Awkan.
Augustus Kalbach Friend
Out of their small friend group, Augustus is probably the person that is least close to Joo-Hwan. They're not on the same level as he and Caden are, but still enjoy being around one another and doing stuff togeether. In fact, Joo-Hwan is extremely supportive of him and his band, doing his hardest to cheer Augustus on from the sideliness. However on Akwan, ██████ and ██████ never had a good thing to say about one another. I'd actually argue that they loathed each other instead.
Lucina Grünberg Friend
One of Joo-Hwan's 'girl buddies'. His words, not mine. From what I know, he used to actually have a crush on her when the two of them were in middle school and she let him down easy. The duo didn't let that ruin their relationship by any means (something I find very endearing) and it's very sweet to see them interact as close friends. He is very comfortable around her and vice versa, Lucina having the tendancy to quite literally hang off of him like a jungle gym sometimes.
Rinette Hijazi Friend
Joo-Hwan's second appointed 'girl buddy'. This however, wasn't always the case. In fact, you could say that he and Rinette were rivals for Lucina's affections—but that rivalry quickly dissipated as soon as Lucina rejected Joo-Hwan. After that, Rinette became much more comfortable being around him and he most certainly warmed up to her too. There is a lot of mutual teasing and playful bickering involved when it comes to these two. Not to mention she also tends to hang off of him as well.
Penelope Metaxas Mutual Crush
Penelope's sudden transfer to DPPA at the beginning of their senior year took Joo-Hwan by storm. They had met before then at a party during summer break, and he was basically instantly enamored with her playful and intelligent personality. On top of it, unlike their friends, the two of them are also both painfully optimistic which naturally helps draw them to one another. He is very forward with her in terms of his romantic feelings and it is clear she quite likes him too. So why aren't they together yet?
Chandler Adachi Teacher
I always seem to find Joo-Hwan and his close friends hanging around Mr. Adachi. I know why, of course, but it doesn't make me any less irritated about the matter. They can plan and scheme all they want, but not on the school's time for Pete's sake. Joo-Hwan is the most straightforward of the bunch when it comes to Mr. Adachi, which is something that is less present when he speaks to his other instructors. The other students find it a bit strange at times which is valid. Subtlety is dead, it seems.
