I normally don't check people's HTML, but this is an easy fix - when you put the text in, you added a new paragraph tag instead of putting it into the one baked into the code, which has the formatting/etc. for the description text and keeps the spacing/stretching from happening.

If you look through the code, I've got a note for the longer desc. text that starts with "LONGER DESCRIPTION TEXT. THE BOX WILL SCROLL THE MORE YOU ADD, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT MAKE NEW PARAGRAPH TAGS" and then warns that adding more paragraph tags will break the code.. which you did.

Before the note is a "

<p>

" tag and after all the filler text, there's a "

</p>

" tag to close it. Delete everything between them but keep the tags, and then keep all of your description text between those two tags, like I said in the code notes lmaoo

HOOO BOY I LOVE THE LOOK OF THIS CODE, I'm gonna use this on background characters for a comic I'm makin >:)

Link it when you do!!! id love to see :)

wraether where did you get started with coding?? ive been trying to learn for months now but i just have no idea how anything works

ive been trying to think abt how to answer this bc im not sure how helpful anything i have to say would be 😭😭 i learned through a class offered at my high school & my code is usually pretty messy. but hers my best attempt at giving a beginners guide:

what you're gonna wanna learn is html and css. these arent quite "programming" languages & are moreso ways of displaying information. html is all the Chunks of a website (text, paragraphs, images, etc.) and css is how those chunks are laid out (color, position, etc) its just an advanced way of formatting text

toyhouse specifically uses something called "bootstrap" which is a way to streamline html tags (aka a framework) and im gonna be honest i barely know how bootstrap works so i mostly trial and error stuff with it. bootstrap is sorta to html as blockbench is to blender (<- if that makes any goddamn sense)

from what i remember, we used mostly w3schools & started with the very basics - i recommend just following the tutorials along in notepad++ (or a similar text editor) without even thinking about toyhouse just so you know how html works & what each tag is. if w3schools doesn't click with you, im sure there are plenty of basic html tutorials on youtube you could follow. my first attempts at sites were beyond basic and ugly but i had a lot of fun just messing around

this also applies for css, which w3schools also has tutorials for - though you can get away with weaker css knowledge than html knowledge in my experience. i wouldnt really call myself Good at css, im constantly googling stuff (in general, searching up everything you wanna do as you go is a great system. im constantly searching up shit like 'how to center an image html' lmao)

then id just try making web pages. making a neocities is a fun way to excersize html

id also reccommend using the "inspect element" feature on your browser to open up sites and take a look at their code - mostly neocities/etc. sites since theyre more likely to have parseable html. copy them into your text editor and just mess around with them. its not stealing if you dont publish the site (youre even welcome to copy the code from my site and fuck around with it) its sorta like looking at other peoples art to improve your own

anyway, if you just fuck around with html/css enough to be able to cobble together a spaghetti code webpage, then youre good to go. before i made any toyhouse codes, i spent a good amount of time messing around editing other peoples codes just to figure out how bootstrap worked/how things display on the site, and i was able to get away with barelty looking into bootstrap by just bruteforcing it with my knowledge of html

frankensteining other codes might be a good starting point, too

and anyway this is reaaaallly long and im not sure how helpful it is. but the good news is learning html isnt THAT hard, like back in the day 12 year olds on neopets were experts in the basics of this stuff. its so fine & so fun to learn

no dont worry this is exactly the advice i was looking for! usually whenever ive asked people theyve just told me where they learnt, but havent really explained what specifically to take from there, thanks so much for going so in depth 💥 im gonna try out all of these
