In order to protect her clan from being pursued by shooter hunters, Sohalia stayed behind to distract them long enough for the clan to swim too far and deep for them. She was sold for a hefty sum to a shooter who preferred slaves with rare features or uncommon pedigrees. As a princess of her people, Sohalia fit the build.

Sohalia does her all she can to make the best of her new life. Still, she chafes somewhat at being a belonging. She has learned to dance, sing and entertain as her owner uses their slaves as part of the luxurious experience of their elite private club. Sohalia is at least grateful that her owner hates babies and the logistics of running a whore house and so won’t allow the slaves to be used for sex.

She hopes someday to be free, but she thinks it unlikely that she will find her clan again as they will have moved on to safer waters. The sea is wide and has depths unknown even to many fishers.

Despite her desire for freedom, the sea, and true family, she has grown close to those in captivity with her. She even found herself liking some things about her master. Only the reminders of her servitude, such as the guards at the doors and the elegant but still iron bars on her window and the occasional punishments endured by those who do not obey, keep her from believing her master is actually a good person. She keeps a secret list of grievances to keep from forgetting why she needs to escape.
