AMBITIOUS • Straight-Forward • Stupid

He’s not a very bright mind that boy, living in Gharken, the southernmost village of Tarras, didn’t give him any chances either. Not that he was a fan of school anyway. He preferred all classes that had to do with training his hands than his brain so perhaps it was a matter of preference and not opportunity.

Lonche embodied the spirit of Tarras: Fishing and Freedom, to live in simplicity. They didn’t need much. They couldn’t afford much to begin with so they were happy living their quaint life with their dad, mum and siblings. As a middle child, they didn’t have to worry about the responsibilities of being the oldest and they weren’t young enough to be spoiled. Therefore, they were pretty much free to do whatever they wanted. Out of everything they could have done, they chose fishing - a little traditional but what else can one do in Gharken? Get involved in politics? They weren’t smart enough for that. However, they were smart with their hands, enough to catch fish with a harpoon or even a lance - they found fishing rods to be too little of a challenge.

On the off-chance his dad wasn’t too tired from work, he would rally his kids for a walk in the town’s centre… but it was inevitable that all those walks would lead to a pub or other, where the family would eat together before having to head home and get an earful from mum. In those moments, it was frequent he’d listen to tales from
bards about the far-off monsters of the sea… Krakens and fish people that can drown you and eat you...

"Ahh, they must be so tasty...", he thought to himself, daydreaming.

Other times they'd eat in this one pub which had the same guest speaker over and over again. A hero from a foreign land with armour shining in the dim light and a voice so loud that it could be heard from outside the premises. She was ambitious and strong... he never caught her name exactly, but he could tell what she was saying was important, so he paid attention. In truth, he understood a few things... it was about the workers rising up and seizing the means of... something? The means of unions?? Lonche was nonetheless moved by her determined spirit and wanted to be a hero in armour, like her. He'd have to earn that privilege.

So, one night, he set out to hunt one of those monsters of the sea. The bard had said the beast lived near their shores so he had to see if the rumours were real... Lo and behold, right in front of him was a slouched figure with green skin and slimey hair... the human-sized fish!!!

While he was good at using lances and harpoons and the like… ambushes were not his strong suit. Screaming “COMERE MONSTER!” was in hindsight a very bad start to the hunt. The fish person was quick to flee into the water. Lonche wouldn’t give up that easily. He chased the fish, stomping into the water and getting ready to dive in. That was a biiiig fish to secure for his family, maybe even two families! Right… they could sell half of it and get loads of money!!! And he could get glory for killing the legendary fish monster. They could even make an armour for the hero of Gharken…

Lest to say he lost the fish that day. He came back in the early morning empty handed and face planted into his shared bed. But he would try again… and again… making it his lifelong goal to chase this tasty looking thing!

Appearance

  • He is a human with tan skin.
  • His hair is reddish, long and naturally messy, stylised as spikes. He makes a braid with the hair on his left (our right) which falls like a bang and is dyed turquoise.
  • His eyes are upturned, turquoise in colour with noticeable pupils. They are kind eyes, a little effeminate.
  • His eyebrows are thick and angular whilst his nose is stubby and soft.
  • The bandaids aren't for style, he gets hurt all the goddamn time.
  • His body type is strong on the arms and torso but not as strong leg-wise.
  • His clothing style is plain and casual. He loves colour, especially yellow, red and turquoise and usually wears tant tops and big boots to work long and hard. He almost never leaves the house without his gloves.
  • His default outfit is comprised of a yellow hoodie with an orange hood, cut off sleeves and laces that end in fishes, as well as turquoise pants with pockets that are accented in red. His tall boots match the red gloves he always wears on his hands.

Fun Facts

  • Their favourite colour is turquoise.
  • They definitely did not “borrow” their dad’s harpoon to use it for fishing. Their dad quietly accepted this development. He’s too tired…
  • They’re one clumsy guy (original character trait). In their efforts to learn how to harpoon properly (AKA without the help of a teacher telling them to switch to a rod) they cut themselves more times than they have bandaids for. Who knew harpoons could be so sharp!!
  • They’re saving up some allowance to buy themselves a nice lance that can double as a harpoon AND A WEAPON FOR THE BADDIES! It’s good that their town doesn’t have too many obvious baddies.
  • They want to impress their family and the town by doing something crazy awesome but they can’t exactly place why. They’ve never thought deeply about it but being a middle child has come with the impairment that they rarely stand out from their siblings. Perhaps that’s also the reason why they impulsively dyed their hair one day and let their mum braid it into something more… presentable.
  • They love nature. Taking into account how hyperactive they can be, it can be hard to think they like something so calming. In truth, they like everything the world has to offer to them. There’s so many different kinds of grass and flowers and FISH! Nature’s variety is amazing and never ending! Lonche never gets tired of it.
  • If they were to drink tea, their favourite would be ginger tea for the earthy spicy taste.
  • Design-wise I wanted to go with a wild but approachable character. I ended up making a hybrid of Sonic and Sylvain but it’s okay they’re into fish-
  • Their first name is Lonche (pronounced Lon-hee) and it’s a phonetic spelling of the Greek word Λόγχη which means lance.
  • Their last name is a transformed version of Azzarà, a Sicilian last name which means fisherman.
  • The name of their town, Gharken, comes from the combination of Garreg Mach and gherkins. It’s a not-so-subtle hint towards his FE3H origins and I also think that the fish country needs oily town names.
  • Oh yeah, they used to be a fandom character for the hit multiplayer MMO game Fire Emblem 3 Houses but I hadn't finished the game and I knew nothing about the world kind of. They were kinda underdeveloped but they found a more comfy home in Ahanaria so I moved them here ^^

Monster Fish

[ legendary food ] Lonche will chase them to the ends of the sea if he has to. This monster WILL be served on the plates of his family’s dinner even if he has to keep trying and trying and trying. Coming back with nothing felt hopeless the first time. And when he tried to explain what he was doing, no one believed him. They said it’s “just a story”. His younger siblings believed him but… it wasn’t enough. He swears on his honour that he’ll catch this FISH!

Kallisti

[ hero ] Lonche looks up to her, inspired by whatever she’s saying. She’s got the spirit of a warrior, and although she doesn’t mention it much Lonche has asked her and it’s true; she’s been in battle with real men and she’s killed people, vile villains! Kallisti is nonetheless approachable and fun to talk with, even if his dad urges him to leave her alone. He wants to be shiny like her…

Bacchus

[ cool bard story guy ] There are lots of bards in Tarras but Bacchus is arguably the most famous one. With humble beginnings from the town right next to theirs, he made the rounds and became a household name. HE was the one to first find the creepy fish person!! Lonche doesn’t see him come around the pubs anymore. Maybe he got too famous and made his own pub.
