Ronan

 Ronan is a main character from a collaborative post-apocalyptic verse called "Montauveiles", that takes place in 2063.

Due to a failed DNA splicing gene that was initially only intended to affect livestock to produce more meat/etc (which was already controversial in its own moral way), this invention very quickly mutated to affect humans too. Deforming them into horrifying amalgams of varying animal combinations, stretching and distorting their bodies to nightmarish extend. The mutative effects being transmitted over to others via bites.

Ronan was also affected by this, but fortunately did not lose his mind to the mutation. The only thing that changed is his body. It's like he has some type of immunity to it.

After his infection he was pretty quickly abandoned by his group and has been on his own for multiple months. As of only very recently, he managed to find trusted allys once more to traverse the wasteland with.

Montauveiles takes place in the year 2063, and the apocalypse started in 2054, so it's been going for 9 years.

The cause of the apocalypse had been the unfortunate result of DNA-splicing between different animals, for faster meat production and so on. However this gene quickly began to mutate at an alarming speed. Turns out mashing two separate animals together doesn't really mesh well mentally, and leaves them irritated and aggressive.

It started spreading over to other animals (cats, dogs, raccoons, etc whatever scurries around within the suburbs), who would essentially start melting together with whatever contact it made that was also living.
The mutative gene is transmitted over via bites, (saliva mixing with the blood), and despite telling people to stay indoors, it did eventually end up transferring over to humans. News coverage of a particularly nasty incident where a person started to attack and maul somebody's face completely out of the blue spread everywhere across the internet.
Everyone is set under lockdown.

They tell the people somebody will come to get them, but it doesn't happen. After a month of waiting or so, the tv stops broadcasting. Soon after the electricity gets shut off as well. you see, the second detail is a problem because in the year 2054 it had already been commonplace to drive electric cars instead of gas-run ones, and those are gonna run out of power eventually. Cars that still need gas are pretty rare and the people that still had them could make a run for it faster than others. the world very quickly falls apart as it continues to spread over states and continents.

Skipping back forward to the 9 years this apocalypse has been going on, Ronan is a mutated survivor who got bit approximately half a year ago and had been promptly abandoned by the group he was traveling with. The thing he was bitten by had been a human mutated with spider-like atributes. Ronan isn't very good at survival and basically improvises his way through everything. He's not sure why he didn't lose his mind as his body kept transforming.

He comes across Naka first, who is a robot that specializes in treating people's injuries and general health problems. He's been stripped of most of his fancy-looking assets to appear more low-quality so he won't be killed for parts.

Match who they meet later is also a mutated survivor, however the two only realize this later on as match has some deep baggage relating to it. They were bitten by an ox-looking mutant and had slowly started to change, and because match's old companions were low on food thought they could wait out til match turns into a full bovine to then kill and eat him. that thankfully didn't happen though.
