Coal Itawa

Coal is a wolf from a tribe native to a frigid tundra believed inhospitable by many. In spite of being another under the resiliant Itawan Sun Crest, Rising Sun, who lived there for generations, Coal did not have the same drive or skill that was demanded of him as a warrior by his father, who was considered the alpha and leader of the tribe, leading to him being picked on and his drive to invent and tinker being shunned by his father. This led to Coal striking out on his own as he grew up, not content with being forced to be a hunter, seeing his father abandon another of his siblings after being harshly wounded, or used as a marital token after that. Snagging a toolbelt and brown jacket from the a smith's basement, Coal set out, lending his services as an artificer to whoever would have him in a world without his father's limits and burdens, though without knowing much of the rules of other places either.

Coal himself can be quite cocky, but cowardly. He tends to value his feet to be able to run should things get out of his control, which happens a bit while playing with his fire magic. He also has a delicate sense of taste, as he can be very picky with food, to the dismay of whatever cook made it.

Coal is a relative of Ignavis Itawa, separated by a 12,000 year generational gap that includes a civilization collapse. 

In an AU where he and Nav meet, interested in how their branches of the far divided tribe have fared and kept fragments of their old ways alive, Nav may occasionally force-feed Coal should he start to refuse eating rations early in his own piloting career, though may find common ground on Nav making more palatable food when he can if he doesn't particularly like the smell of an establishment and has the ingredients to do so.
