Story
Beginnings
Well, here he was. His first day on the job. The Famine on Earth had him in a hurry to find anything; he can barely even recall the days when fresh food was affordable, let alone widely-accessible. Now it’s simply been reduced to a delicacy for the rich. Even then, things have gotten out of hand. The price of living is through the roof and his family isn’t exactly well-off. Being a professional shut-in of 22 years doesn’t exactly help the case either; It doesn’t exactly bode well financially, nor was it really merciful to his mental state with how guilty his parents had him feeling about it. (I suppose 22 is about time to hop on it anywho)... Hence why he was here. It was only a season-long contract–perfect for someone new to the whole ‘having a job’ thing.
With a quick final check of the uniform and a confident step forward–as if on queue–he hears the sound of the autopilot ship descend down into the atmosphere, landing just metres away from where he stood. This was it. The beginning of something new, exciting, and adventurous. Taking in a deep breath, he allows himself one last moment to get a view of the planet he considered home. He bids Earth a mental adieu, and with that he wasted no more time. . .
