Angie was made to be calm like CatNap, but also more parental. Playtime CO. thought that having a more parental character directed towards the praise of CatNap's special skillset would help encourage children to want the toy, and also help ease concerns of parents. Angie isn't much of a talker, but they still talk more than CatNap does. When the two are together Angie is normally the one speaking for CatNap, either he whispered something to them or because they just know CatNap so well. They don't think death is right, and hates to hurt people, but sees their survival as necessary and puts it over others well-being as they don't want to leave CatNap without a true friend.
Angie was made to be beside CatNap, and that shows in their actual personality. They will choose to always help CatNap because he's their friend and has never wronged them. While it does go deeper than that, the two have a mutual understanding. While Angie doesn't like the things CatNap does or the beings that he praises, they know he's trying to do good things. They don't think they could do good things, they don't think they could help others just by themself; and as much as they don't believe in The Prototypes ways, they'll stick by CatNap and help. Angie was the only Smiling Critter who stuck around CatNap and they'll never leave him willingly.

Angie was made to be a companion to CatNap specifically. Playtime CO. was having a hard time really hitting that sweet spot with CatNap's advertising: so they added Angie. Angie was also Playtime CO.'s attempt to add a more diverse animal category to the Smiling Critters, Angie being marine life and all that. Angie was made to not only tell children that CatNap will help with their fear of the dark, but was also made to caution children about deep waters; Playtime CO. felt like if they gave Angie another role, other than being CatNap's aid, it would make them more appealing to children. This idea worked! Angie and CatNap were marketed together and typically bought together. However, when CatNap was recalled, so was Angie. Parents feared that Angie had something that could harm their children, just like CatNap's gas, and Playtime CO. knew Angie wouldn't sell as good as the other Smiling Critters so that was another reason to re-call them
