Profile

Personality: Prior to her amnesia, she was a strong, go-getter child who also happened to be the daughter of Archie, leader of Team Aqua. While she was too young to participate in the villainous activities of Team Aqua, she was instead taught about sea life by her mother, Angie, also known by her old code name: Shelly. (The previous Shelly had to retire to take care of Cascata while her elder daughter took on the code name.) Despite this circumstance, Cascata knew how to be a fearsome Pokemon trainer even rivaling her father!

After the amnesia incident, her personality drastically changed. She had become more solemn, calm, and withdrawn. However, her skills in training Pokemon had not faded; in fact, they had grown stronger. Waking up in a new region had given her a new home to roam, and thus, she spends her days as a sculptor, crafting different cups, vases, and goblets in Humilau City (located in Unova).

Backstory: Cascata was born the youngest daughter of two to parents Archie and Angie of Team Aqua in the Hoenn region. Contrary to the menacing reputations these two get to others, both of them were the hardiest and most loving parents to their little girls. Since they were raised close to the sea, water itself was just another sibling of hers.

When she was a little girl, she was swimming out on the beach, but she swam out too far and a wave swallowed her whole! This was the moment she first encountered a Kyogre. While drowning, she landed on Kyogre's head as it traveled. Bewildered and concerned for the child, it returns her to shore before disappearing. Archie arrives to rescue Cascata and catches a glimpse of Kyogre before it's completely gone. It reminded him of a similar experience with a Water Pokemon savior.

Since then, Cascata gains an ability to speak telepathically to Water type Pokemon. However, it doesn't work on other Pokemon unless they share the Water type.

At the same time, Archie truly begins to dedicate his research to finding ways to expand the ocean as a means of thanks to Kyogre. However, that gratitude turned to obsession-- he wasn't even there to celebrate when Mishelle, his eldest daughter, was granted an internship at Devon Corporation.

On the day of Kyogre's awakening, Cascata was actually planning to run away from home as she felt her gift and other skills were being wasted on Team Aqua's goals. After taking a boat, Primal Kyogre coincidentally awoke, sending an even bigger wave that separated her from the rest of her family. Due to the impact, she ends up passing out on that boat.

Time passes and she wakes up in an unfamiliar region with amnesia. That region? Unova! Fortunately, where she ended up, the residents were very kind and offered her a home in Humilau City to stay. She even ended up becoming best friends with the local Gym leader, Marlon, who also happens to be a fellow Water type Pokemon trainer!

Will she ever recover her memories and make it back home? Who knows? There is a certain Kyogre that follows her around though, which seems to offer a big clue.

Additional

  • I've had Cascata since around 2014 during the ORAS craze! Hoenn is still arguably one of my favorite regions today.
  • Not much has changed from her original design besides her hair, stockings, and the tattoo she has. They're all new details I added.
  • She used to have a huge celebrity crush on Wallace of Sootopolis but ended up forgetting about it because of the amnesia. She does tend to blush at posters of him though.
  • Her Pokemon team is based on Pokemon I own myself. (Yes, I do indeed have a shiny male Azumarill! Caught him in Pokemon Violet!)
  • Still retains her telepathic ability towards Water types in her present day
  • Her conception was actually based around an artist's headcanon that the original Shelly from Sapphire and Shelly from Alpha Sapphire were mother and daughter, with Archie as the father. However, I forgot their name, so if anyone recognizes this headcanon, please let me know.
