Eleanor Ash. Goes by her last name. Based on the velvet ash. The "leader" of the group, or at least the brains of the operation.
Ash's father was a well-educated man, a valuable member of their small community. When he died, he left young Ash, her mother, and her two siblings to fend for themselves. Ash took to studying his books to try and help fill his shoes. She has a particular fascination with engineering, especially the old-world mechanisms. However, all that work to help her family caused her to miss out on a normal childhood, and she often has difficulties relating to others.
Ash has poor vision. She wore glasses at home, but switched to goggles for the road. They're sturdier and a lot harder to lose. She's also got a bad ankle from a childhood injury, it's healed but sometimes causes problems.
