Originally a grunt for an organization known as the Sea Ninjas--a group of thieves that mostly consisted of an odd species of fish known as "walking-fish"--Fry teamed up with Luka after a chance meeting and helped him free his robot partner from brainwashing. The two have been buddies ever since!

He's a vegan, though some stories describe his razor-sharp teeth, leading to me wonder if he's a carnivore that chooses to not eat meat, or if he's actually an herbivorous fish...
