Deep in the highlands, emerald foliage shrouded in a blanket of fog, lies an industrial complex; pylons row on row. Often cloaked in an overcast of gray clouds, rain was never an uncommon sight. On a summer's eve, once long ago, a storm swept through the land, felling trees and towers alike. Amidst the debris lay a battered, worn wormling, entangled in wires that still crackled with a flood energy that had nowhere to go. Found by one of the engineers, it was pulled free from its shackles and offered solace within the complex. With how weak the wormling was, much of its color already beginning to fade, the engineer made quick work of retrieving a suitable host for it: a young pigeon, having met its fate in the storm that nearly claimed the wormling. With a choice between life and death, the wormling accepted the pigeon's damp corpse as its husk. As the days went by, the workers keeping an eye on their new companion, a CCCat was formed: Meek.
She took to the humans quite fondly, spending her time roaming within the complex and even aiding them in their work. Yet, as time went on, the silence that had once filled Meek's crowns hummed to life- an intense static drowning out a distant voice. Though immensely burdened by the sound, it perturbed Meek. Who was this voice? Were they calling for her? Why did she feel so drawn to the source? As the seasons came and went, the summertime returned again. Another storm rolled in, and Meek prepared for flight. It had been an easy task: fly to the towers and activate the generators. With lithe, agile movements, she braved the heavy rains and brought the generators to life. But, as she prepared to take off and return to the safety of the complex, the voice called out once more from within the static. Looking out upon the horizon, Meek could see golden highlights beyond the swirling chaos. No longer able to ignore the call, she took off into the storm. It was nothing that she hadn't encountered before, summer storms were often rough, but the further she went, the heavier the rain pelted against her body.
Pushing on, flying just above the clouds, the golden light was soon just beneath her feet. As she swooped down, expecting relief from the warm, golden glow, there was a deafening rumble before a bolt of raw electricity struck her core; sending her spiraling downward. Her body scraped against the ravine below, ricocheting between the rocks before finally crashing against the cold, wet earth. Unable to move, the CCCat slipped into unconsciousness. The next morning, when the storm had gone, Meek's eye was recovered by the workers, but she was gone without so much as a trace.
An immense white light flashed before her, and then it was gone. As the sun's rays filtered through the dingy confines of the ravine, Meek's body lurched, a groan coming from her disfigured body as it began to realign. But, as she slowly rose from the ground, there was resistance- her body caked in moss. With a few draining tugs, she was freed from the growth. How long had she been here? Struggling to lift off the ground, her body and wings stiff, Meek climbed out of the ravine. It was a long trek, but she knew to follow the pylons. Yet, they seemed different- rusty and overgrown with flora, as if it had been a while since they were last tended to. The complex was no different, empty- abandoned- covered in dust and ivy. What happened?
