The crew of the Murphy are professional bounty hunters - as well as notorious space pirates.
They go around hijacking bigger ships and stealing anything valuable that is not bolted down - they vaccilate wildly between sneaking in and out completely unnoticed and grand theatrical entrances followed by taking everyone on board hostage if they haven't yet gotten their weekly share of drama.
So far, no reigning government has tried to have them arrested for their crimes bc they are very efficient at hunting down criminals - and it is fairly easy to keep them busy with various bounties so they don't get too terribly aggressive. ...usually

Personality:
River may look like the calmest member of this ragtag group of space pirates, but that is far from the truth.
Behind his resting-tired-face hides an untold amount of chaos and utter ridiculousness.
Most of the more... creative (aka idiotic) schemes the group gets up to can be chalked up to him.
But despite his idea's penchant for blowing up in everyone's faces, they're always a hell of a lot of fun!
