Notable Traits: Custom Fuzzly Companion, Drake Bodytype, Scale Blessing

Weapon: Tome

Created from the ever-gentle Kardha’s crystal and blessed by Radyx, the embodiment of nature’s sweet life — Halcyon is a refreshing burst of cheerful kindness.  Her essence – an auspicious future – reflects this quite clearly! During her time as a student, the other aetherlings regarded her as a sort of good luck charm – always inviting her to cheer them on during mock battles. It was a duty she was happy to uphold, as the aetherling took any excuse not to train or pick up a weapon in general.

Despite her dislike for fighting, Halcyon displayed an undeniable talent for magic and an uncanny knack with potion and poultice making. She channeled these skills into more peaceful techniques, preferring to disable or distract opponents – much to the annoyance of her teachers and occasionally, peers.

Her accidental rivalry with Downfall was half a result of their conflicting essences and half due to a particularly humiliating defeat – wherein she trapped him in a bubble for half an hour. Since that moment, the pair had rematch after rematch… after rematch.  Although she’d be loathe to admit it, Halcyon came to enjoy these little bouts and the sullen aetherling’s reluctant company.

It was after one such fight that Halcyon stumbled into a well-dressed man at the markets – fingers touching as they both reached for the same bundle of herbs.  She’d meant to buy them for an ointment to treat a few of Downfall’s wounds – but was quickly distracted by the handsome stranger.  He introduced himself as “The Jeweler” and Halcyon, having grown up with aetherling’s strange names, never thought it odd.  They soon became fast friends, as she fell for his flattery and soft, low voice.

It was she who let slip the grove’s existence – she who let The Jeweler past the barrier – and she who stood by shaking as he massacred her only friends and family. Try as she might, Halcyon found herself frozen in place, too afraid to even speak.

Then in a flash of magic, she was safe – whisked away to a random spot in the surrounding Aethersky.  Downfall was there too and she went to him, pleading that they flee together – back to the city, to anywhere they could find help. He refused -- and dejected, she fled towards a nearby pearl, the Heartwood Forest.

There she encountered Devouring – still seething and singed. When they found out her role in this debacle, they nearly set her flame but Halcyon’s tears and sincerity managed to quench the flames of their anger. Instead, they asked her to pledge to fix this mistake – and vow to reclaim the home they’d so recently lost.  She did so, still crying, and offered her life in exchange should she ever betray her promise.

Where the tears fell on her fur, later golden scales would start to sprout.

And so the pair set off, tracking down Downfall to join their ragtag group.  Although Halcyon pretends to be brave – she can’t quite shake the feeling that she let everyone down that night… and that when push comes to shove, she’ll freeze again.

But her companions keep her hope alive and with each battle, her confidence slowly builds.
