You can do almost anything with the design, the only thing i ask is:
- don't sell a character for more than it's worth!
- don't sell a character if it doesn't have any monetary value in general
- if there's extra art (any kind of art, comissioned artwork, your own art) you may add the worth of the art and sell the design
