While doing his ‘odd job’ at the Temple of Light, Hector was involuntarily dragged into the saintess war by Saoirse who does not want to become a saintess despite being the strongest candidate. (One can say that the selection ceremony is just there for show and that the temple already locked their decision on Saorise)
