Aoko used to be a member of the Koimida Clan, and was banished after a committing a crime, which could not be overlooked nor forgive. Instead of being executed, Hoshiko decided to banish her and let her reflect on her bad deed. She also lost her mermaid tail and is no longer able to live underwater as she once used to.
Aoko is bound inside a deep, dark forest and is unable to leave it. She also lost most of her magical skills as a Koi Mermaid and every time her skin gets in touch with ocean water, her body would start to hurt.
Many people are afraid of her. She's a manipulative, coldhearted, envious, confident and catty woman. Aoko would do everything it takes to get what she wants, even if it means to hurt those which are dear to her.

Aoko once belonged to the hidden Koi Mermaid clan and was one of the first created Koi Mermaids of the Queen. She was born as most other Koi Mermaids from a pearl which was fuelled with the magic of the Queen.
She used to be a kind and gentle person, which even gave the younger Koi mermaids some important advice or help. During her stay on land, she met a handsome man, who tried to win over her love. At first, she refused him, but later on she started to fall in love with him. He knew what she was and didn't mind that she was different.
Her lover asked her for a few favors, like getting some pearls for him and other things. But one day she saw him with another woman and she overheard their conversation. "Is it really okay to ask a Koi Mermaid for all those riches? You even told her that you love her. That's not right!" She heard the woman say and at this moment she realized that she was fooled by this man who said that he loved her and that he wanted to be with her forever. Aoko killed him and his fiancée out off pure hatred and jealousy.
The Queen couldn't overlook this crime and had to punish her harshly.
