Gemma Østergaard, also known as War Phoenix, is a Belgian woman who only moved to America after a Villain destroyed a town and killed her parents among other people. Her costume is based on one of the stories her parents used to tell her, about a bird.
Despite aiming to get the Avengers to do more Heroics outside of America, the events of Civil War happen so she just gives up and finally took up the mantle of War Phoenix full time.
