Petroica was born to a powerful, royal demon family, who were known for their great strength and mana. But Petroica turned out to be a bit more "dainty" than the rest of his family, and was seen as a weak link. Which is why when he was a teen, Petroica's family was more than happy to accept an offer from an obscure being who wished to purchase him for an insanely large sum. Petroica was devastated his family thought so little of him they'd sell him, but the being assured him he was better off without a family who failed to see his potential, and nurture it. The being introduces himself as Dementae and promises Petroica his family would someday regret taking him for granted.

Petroica assumed he was purchased to do labor or other kinds of services, but instead Dementae gave Petroica a comfortable life while training his mind, magic, and physical strength.  By the time he reached adulthood Petroica had become as wise as any advanced scholar and as powerful as a master mage. As thanks for all he was given, Dementae asks Petroica for his loyalty as a disciple of the Destroyer in his future plans to reach out into the surface worlds. Petroica is hesitant at first and had no interest in war, but knew he didn't actually have a choice. So he agreed, as long as he was able to research whatever he pleased.
