Ward Everett

Ward is a rather antisocial young man, preferring to go about life as a loner and struggle by on his own. He initially gets by as a thief, but upon encountering Naoise and Carwyn he gets scared straight after some daunting events. So now he's a bitter employee at a grocery store and tries to avoid the actual customer service part as much as possible, instead sticking to stocking shelves and working in the back. His manager, Stewart, is a mother hen, and has taken Ward under his wing, somewhat forcefully adopting him as his younger brother. Ward's main companion is a strange critter he encountered one evening and dubbed Rupert. Rupert is usually on Ward's shoulder or nearby messing with something...and when there are no fantasy elements to let Rupert be the critter he is, he is instead depicted as a large rat. Regardless, Ward and Rupert become a dynamic duo.

Ward's general view of the world is pessimistic. He knows people can be pretty rotten, and he knows that the good folks usually just get hurt anyway. He's very morally gray, and back when he was thieving, about the only thing he did was make sure to try to avoid stealing overly sentimental things. Otherwise, he didn't care. He's not a fighter though, and quite frankly he hates violence. He'll defend himself, but he won't hurt anyone if he doesn't have to.

Even after he gets into a loving polyamorous relationship with Naoise and Carwyn, he's the downer of the trio. He learns to lighten up and depend on others, though, and overall is a happier person once he breaks a few old habits.
