Penny

• Mael is able to retract himself and come out of Penny's eye. He doesn't like leaving Penny much though. But most of the time he's not visible.
• As of right now, Penny mostly wears their mask off to the side, so their face is still shown.

Penny's only real friend growing up was Gizmo. Penny wasn't too popular in school. People often found them weird for their interests and behavior, including their parents. They felt they could never live up to their expectations, and that they wished Gizmo had been their child instead. She also had Flowering Disease, a disease in which flowers grow on the victims body, often pernamently damaging body parts. In Penny's case, the flowers completely ate away at her eye. They were cured, but people often found them creepy for having a bunch of flowers in their eye. It left them bitter. They lacked trust in others and despised almost everyone around them. In art class one day, they got to make masks. Penny and Gizmo made masks for eachother. Penny decided to wear the mask from Gizmo to cover up their face, hoping to scare people less. Eventually, Gizmo would leave for New Home to go to college to pursue engineering, leaving Penny behind in Waterfall. The two would rarely talk, only briefly speaking when Gizmo visited Waterfall to buy stuff from Penny's farmers market.

One day while out in their garden, Penny came across a small garden eel. He introduced himself as Maelstrom and told Penny about how he'd been "watching them" and offered them a deal that could make all their worries go away. Penny was... interested to say the least. He told her to meet him in a nearby cave the next day if they were interested in his offer. Penny took Maelstrom up on his offer, and in the cave, Maelstrom introduced himself as what he really was, a parasite. He explained the plight of his species, how they're weak and overlooked, and, how he had always been taught violence was the best solution to its problems. If Penny let Maelstrom use their body, they could easily take out everyone who hurt the both of them. Penny had always been bitter about their childhood. They never let go. They allowed that hate to burn up inside of them, and to Penny, this was the best way to take that all out. They accepted his offer.

After Penny, Mael, and Gizmo had all made up, Penny begins to try and better themself. They and Mael were both still messed up after everything they did and had happened, but both parties were too nervous to talk about it with the other for feat of upsetting them. Penny didn't blame Mael for everything, but didn't want him to feel like Penny did blame him. Penny had since realized that Mael had simply been a horribly misguided child, and took it upon themself to try and raise him to be not awful. Meanwhile Mael wanted to further try and make up for everything, but felt like he didn't deserve attonement. They did their best to make up for what they did and simply tried to move on. Penny started to go out more often, and eventually, they met Cassiopeia, Amaura, and Inlyn. Penny soon fell in love with them, and eventually, would get into a relationship with them all.
