Firefly's cutie-mark is a mutli-colored shooting star surrounded by sparkles and a pair of small pegasus wings.
Due to a lack of alicorn leaders after the Great War, Princess Sunstone had begun to choose young ponies to train and hopefully make new and worthy alicorn leaders. Firefly was one of these young ponies to be chosen, and had immediantly gained his cutie-mark after his very first lesson with the princess. Ever since, Princess Sunstone has been devoting many of her resources trying to gain Firefly alicornhood, but each attempt she's made has failed.

Although Firefly respects Princess Sunstone as a ruler, he somewhat resents her due to her anger towards him as a mentor. He's, to a degree, scared of her as well, but mainly due to the fact that Alicorn magic is still something that's not known much about.
