Description:

A grouchy old charr who is pretty set in his ways and his routines. Lives at the Citadel, despite the fact that his mate basically lives in Lions Arch (though she also travels, and stays with him for weeks or months at a time). They have found ways to make their different needs work. He is thinking of moving to Lions Arch so that Liram doesn’t have to make the extra trip to the Citadel, but also because he likes it there, and frankly the pay is better for his profession. He attends annual conferences in LA (and Rata Sum - he prefers the latter as it is more efficiently run and organized), so those would be easier for him to get to as well. It just takes him awhile to make a big decision like that. Waldek is very introverted and prefers to quietly sit and think or study over getting in fights or hanging out in bars. He can hold his own, especially with his tendency to fight only when provoked to anger. He isn’t a pacifist nor afraid of conflict. He just doesn’t have much to say to others. Otherwise, he is friendly with the people he does know, and not generally keen on knowing many more. The amount of effort it would take to get to know someone he feels is time that could have been spent in academics, at work, or with Liram (or bringing his cubs a special lunch each week, which is part of his routine). He may be crabby, but his temper isn’t easily sparked. He’s more likely to roll his eyes and grouse about something than get his back up over it. In his early years, he never sought a mate and slept with few people, at least compared to the rest of his warband. He wasn’t unhappy about this though, as he has always been a bit of a quiet loner. His ‘band didn’t give him too much grief, as he always had what they needed of him, if not many things to say, and has been close to a few of them over the years. Despite his introverted nature, he becomes strongly loyal when he does find a bond with someone, as he did with Liram as the two grew older, and lost mutual friends from their ‘band. With each loss, he became more and more emotionally guarded, which accounts for his surly nature, but is also telling of his own pains and regrets. Liram inspires him to stop putting off the future and just live, which is why he ever mated with her, had cubs, and even attempted to travel with her. Despite not seeking a mate in the past, he did always hope to have cubs someday, and almost let his opportunities pass by keeping it a someday thing. By the age of 40, his warband were mostly established in their careers or had been killed in action, so when Liram showed up at the Citadel after extensive travel and questing, he was struck by how different she was. Calmer, more mature, and less prone to sudden outbursts. She was drawn to his stability of character as she tried to accept herself for who she now was vs who she used to be. The two grew closer as they spent time together, revealing things that neither would have told anyone else. He had always thought about having cubs, and she regretted not keeping in touch with hers. They decided to try, despite their age, and ended up with two. Waldek doesn’t strike many as being the typical necromancer, with his professional manner and general lack of creepiness or skulking in dark alleys. He takes the same route to work every day, eats at the same food carts, and sees the same people on his route. They sometimes wave to him or have a short conversation. No one finds him creepy, just a bit of a grouch who always has somewhere else to be than here talking to you.
