sSB was part of the group of SBs that were sent decades after they lost connection with 1C1N to collect samples of life and minerals from the oceans. sSB was specifically designed to collect sand samples in its torso compartment. Unfortunately, due to an unnoticed defect in manufacturing, sSB was unable to enter the water and was left behind on the beaches as the rest of its model descended into sea.
The SB model is far more advanced than 1C1N, and was developed years after a breakthrough in electromagnetism that allowed the robots to move without joints and thus be insusceptible to leaking.
