Echo is a shapeshifter! The main thing it shapeshifts into a dog, they grew up in a cabin in the woods as a younger sibling they were homeschooled so they didn't interact with kids there age, though it did do all the shopping for the family , at a young age they got a job and saved up money to get a cane for there weird limp making it hard for them to walk. Of course they also moved out from the small cabin into a apartment that is where they meet their bff velvet :)
