Jonquil

Jonquil is from a long line of knights who served a noble family. The noble family had a son, Caspian, only a couple years after Jonquil was born. This, of course, meant that the two boys grew up together, forming a close, inseparable bond. Jonquil developed feelings for Caspian, but they were unrequited, not to mention it would have been frowned upon by their families.

Once they both reached adolescence, Jonquil- who had been training for most of his life- was appointed as Caspian's personal guard and swore his oath.

He kept his feelings to himself and just settled for showing his love by doing his duty of protecting Caspian. They remained friends, but eventually Caspian became engaged to a noblewoman and focused more on her and starting a family. Still, Jonquil served him and his family. As long as Caspian was happy, Jonquil was happy.

One night, Caspian had tasked Jonquil with staying at the manor to watch their child so he and his wife could have a night to themselves, and Jonquil was more than happy to be of service. Except they never returned home. They had been attacked and killed during their outing, and Jonquil blames himself for not being there to protect them. Thus broke his oath.
