The darkness holds nightmares beyond your imagination. Squirming, creeping, crawling. No shelter will give you salvation. Choose your target wisely, for if you miss, you will be very very sorry.

Description

Physiology

A large insectoid resembling a centipede, Arthohtra have a long segmented body and many, many legs. The pattern that appears on its back is intended to confuse and disorient prey and predator alike and is able to flash similar to that of a firefly. Its back end resembles its front end very closely, giving it the apperance of having two heads. The best way to figure the front from the back is to look for its large mantis like claws, which are each flipped inverse of eachother to resemble a jaw that is much larger than its real mouth--with a grip strength to match. Arthohtra is capable of walking backwards as well as it can forwards, further contributing to the confusion its false head and eyespots can cause.

Behavior

Arthohtra are ambush predators, they conceal themselves in crevices in walls and wait for another monster to pass by, at which it will leap out of its hiding spot, grab hold of its prey with its claws, then proceed to eat it while its still alive. In a situation where its prey puts up a fight or it gets caught by a predator, Arthohtra will flash its fake eyespots and move in a disorientating pattern, confusing its opponent and creating an opening to strike.
