Pearl

Nestling
Born in the town of Rivers Deep, Pearl was the only surviving hatchling from her parent’s latest clutch. Her brothers looked on with stars in their eyes, and her parents with tears of joy. She was born without any feathers or fur, her body almost reminiscent of a pink jellybean. Even as a youth she was very noisy, peeping and squeaking whenever she was the slightest bit hungry. Growing up during times of war however proved to be challenging, especially for her parents who had to care for four children. Unfortunately that meant Pearl sometimes went hungry, her screeches late into the night keeping her family awake.

Fledgling
And as she grew from nestling to fledgling, her chatty tendencies only grew. She was able to babble and soon talk in full sentences. Pearl enjoyed playing with her older siblings, even when she had trouble keeping up with them in her tiny body. They and her parents guided her and together they taught her how to fly. But the good times cannot last. War came knocking upon their door. Her eldest brother left to join the Harpy army and served as a scout/spy. Not long after leaving home, he double backed, returning with a strange, long legged fledgling. Her parents, being the familial sort they are, quickly agreed to adopt the Hippus. And after that Pearl’s brother once again headed off to war.

Adolescent
In Pearl’s early teens, her family received grim news. On a reconnaissance mission things went south fast, and her brother was found, caught, and killed by the enemy. Everyone in the family was distraught, Pearl herself taking it especially hard. It didn’t help when Mealybug, who also took poorly to the death, began to distance themself from her and the rest of the family. Practically desperate to fill in the voids, she had gotten hasty in her attempts to make new companions and in how she tackled her everyday tasks. A year later and the wars began to die off, a fragile excuse for peace sweeping across the country. Pearl started learning how to take part in the family business of fishing. She was taught how to make nets, and how to lure fish and catch them. She was a quick learner, though tended to get easily distracted by things. One such time led her into trouble and she very nearly became a saltwater crocodile’s snack.

Adult
She now is fully capable of going fishing on her own, though still will sometimes work with her family in catching fish and other sea life. Pearl got especially excited when she found a natural pearl inside a mussel. She began trying to find ways to increase the chances of a mussel procuring a pearl. However, such not only takes time and skill, but technology that Avetherians have yet to create. She was really happy when she saw Mealybug again, though admittedly did find their occupation a bit strange at first. The pseudo-harpy enjoys traveling from time to time, especially when she is able to accompany or be accompanied by her Hippus sibling. She will even go beyond the rainforest to find new shinies to add to her collection or new seafood to try. She also enjoys making new friends, even if it takes time to warm up to bird folk larger than her and with more teeth.
