ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ

• Cocky , sharp-witted, full of himself. Talkative for all the wrong reasons, so don't let him lead a conversation. Still only wants your soul, just not trying to mask it anymore.

ʀᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴsʜɪᴘs

• Ben - Gary is Ben's dad, his creator, the one who brought him into this world all wrong and fixed him up expecting praise in return. He expects the best and only the best out of his son, giving him task after task and waiting for the boy to fail. But, since he never does, Gary holds Ben as his best defendor, someone who will risk it to protect his dad. It's a human shield who Gary can discard if used.

• The Additons - Lost friends and family but he keeps them around for some reason. Their unresolved fallout lives rent-free in Gary's head, even if he'll never admit it. Instead of deleting or replacing his old friends with somebody else, Gary decided to curse them with the same life he'd lived as Spamton; to live in the garbage as tiny useless things. He only laments letting them live in the back of the TV Studio Tower since they tend to break into it so often. They taunt him with guesses of where his life is going, and if he regrets anything so far. They're quickly chased out of the TV Studio by guard dogs, but they know their words make it past Gary's contant poker face.

• Swatch - Ex from a situationship, confidant and then back to "it's complicated". During his big shot days, Gary and Swatch had a thing going on, though they never labelled it. Regardless of what type of love there was between the two, it quickly came crashing down when Spamton got evicted from Queen's Mansion and suffered greater disasters after trying to break in again. For years, Swatch assumed Spamton to be dead, almost certain that he wouldn't have made it with all the acid damage he got. He only realised Spamton had survived when Kris visited the Color Cafe after the NEO fight. After being recruited to CastleTown, Swatch is the first one to wake up in Gary's new world. He was his confidant for a while, overseeing Ben's creation and how Gary's plans grew and grew. As Swatch started questioning Gary's motives and criticizing his way of raising Ben, Swatch was demoted and banished to the lower levels of the TV Studio Tower. He now resides there full-time, unable to get Gary to see how he's going down the same path from all those years ago.

• Mr.Sul - By trying to break out of his own dimension, Gary ruined the lives of many other Darkners; trying to reach into their dimensions caused irreparable damages to the people who were unfortunate enough to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. One of those people was Sul. Now, everyone whose lives he ruined are falling into his dimension as the fabric of reality thins with every failed experiment. Gary is secure inside his TV News Station, hiding away from someone else completely. Meanwhile, he has no idea how many other people are after him.

• Wendy - Despite being the one who created them, Gary feels no attachment to Wendy. They weren't family, friends or even acquaintances; Gary created Wendy from the ground up solely to fulfill a job, a purpose. They failed, so they got discarded, as most faulty things do.

ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ
After the Spamton NEO fight, the player finds Spamton tied to the strings/cables down in the basement. Usually, that’s where his character arc ends as he dies and becomes the items Kris carries with them throughout the game. However, this time, that doesn't happen. For unknown reasons, the events of the game do not go according to plan, and Spamton does not die. The trigger in the game's code to make Spamton die doesn't activate, and so, the game is left confused over what to do with a defeated enemy. With the game broken on that aspect, the player is forced to leave Spamton hanging in the basement and go finish the game, closing Cyber City's Dark Fountain as intended.

A few days later, that same Dark Fountain reopens. Kris and the gang, puzzled, go back in to investigate what had happened. This time, things were different. Cyber City was rebranded to a buzzing metropolis, with Spamton as its ruler and... news host. Unbeknownst to Kris and the others, Spamton, finally free from his strings, had decided his time to die wouldn't be all alone in a dusty old basement. Through a sliver of the same power Kris wields, Spamton rebranded himself as Gary; a massive robot star who had it all: fame, power, and a city at his feet. Gary got his so desired second chance to be a big shot, and he wasn't gonna let a bunch of kids take him down again.

ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ [[ɢᴀʀʏ]]
Gary is his the main villain of his own chapter. Unbeknownst to the player, he was the one to open the Dark Fountain to recreate Cyber City to his liking. However, there is no Dark Fountain. Gary's own existence is enough to keep the city alive; he is the Dark Fountain. So to escape the new city and end the chapter, it is necessary to kill him.

After meeting the Fun Gang at the city's entrance via remote security robots, Gary invites them into his TV Studio Tower in a friendly way, though even that leads to another fight. Gary insists that whatever Dark Fountain the group is looking for isn't here, but that they are welcome to look around as much as they'd like to to be sure of it. This is an offer the player can either accept or decline, branching into the two routes of the chapter: the Insider Route or the Outsider Route

In the Insider Route, with the player accepting Gary's offer, the whole chapter is spent inside the TV Studio Tower, blocking out anymore exploring that could have been done outside. Gary appears sporadically around the tower; either spying on the gang through TV screens or personally appearing in places he shouldn't be able to get in. With this, it is implied Gary has some ability relating to teleporting or fast-travelling. After meeting Swatch in the lower levels of the Tower, Gary will warn Kris about going in "too deep about things", that whatever it is they're looking for isn't down there, and that they shouldn't try to go down there again.

After the Fun Gang realize they'd been sent on a wild goose chase, they return to Gary to confront him yet again. They find him at the rooftop of his own studio tower and the final bossfight of the game commences. Defeating Gary at the top of the tower will trigger the second phase of his bossfight, in which he melts into the floor and fuses himself with the surrounding buildings, creating GIGA Gary. Defeating him in this form will cause whoever was in control of the DELTARUNE universe - implied to be Gaster - to reset the timeline back to after the Spamton NEO bossfight and fix the disparity that caused this problem in the first place. If the conditions for the secret boss of the chapter are met, Gary's bossfight will be replaced with the secret bossfight.

In the Outsider Route, with the player declining Gary's offer, the Fun Gang get kicked off the TV Studio Tower and spend the whole chapter in the streets of the new Cyber City without any of Gary's input. He's mentioned by shopkeepers and NPCs, but he's only seen again when the player breaks into the studio to confront him again.

NOTE: Due to the incomplete state of DELTARUNE at the time of writing, lots of assumptions are made about certain topics to make the story work, taking notes from the lore and world-building of UNDERTALE as foundation. In the future, as the game develops, these are to be considered as an au, standing on its own two feet regardless of game canon.

• Gary is still a Darkner, but he has enough power to keep a whole city going by himself. So much so that if he dies, his entire creation goes with him. During Kris's time in this new Cyber City, Ralsei would hint at the fact that this city doesn't seem to have a Dark Fountain. Gary had enough "determination" to keep himself from dying after his script faltered and he wasn't able to die after his NEO battle. He didn't make a fountain, but he was strong enough himself to recreate Cyber City the way he wanted it. When he dies, the city dies with him. So, Gary is like a little walking Dark Fountain

• Gary exists only due to an error where he would not disappear when the player finds him as Spamton post-NEO fight. Pretty much a Spamton who got admin privileges and managed to rewrite the game's script just so he could have another shot at greatness and to screw everyone who'd been mean to him. Gaster is after him because of that, since he believes that nobody can choose who they are in this world.

• Gary HATES being called Spamton and will deny being him at all costs, even if he's aware that Kris knows who he really is.

• Gary is really bad at rewriting his own script, leaving him a glitchy sick mess. One of his biggest flaws is that he cannot eat anything since, in-game, eating would be considered as interacting or consuming anything that could be considered an item. While recoding himself, Gary ruined that function in his code, leaving him unable to consume any food items and heal his HP.

• Gary is absolutely terrified of Maice since when he was still Spamton he used to get his hands, feet and nose chewed on while he tried to sleep in the dumpsters. He's a big guy now, but he's still scared of them

• Gary is the final bossfight of his own chapter. If defeated through FIGHTing, the player will receive the Wing Ax, which everyone can equip despite it being an axe. This is explained as since Gary is naturally an aggressive and show-offish person, people already see him as a weapon. However, by defeating him through ACTing, the player will receive the NewsBreaker - Gary's tie - who only Kris can equip. Gary's tie is very important to him, so he'd only let people he trusts use it (during the chapter, it would be consistently referred to as a "gift", something that cannot be taken, only gifted). 

When equipping the Wing Ax:

•  The old man can still swing! Neat! [When equipping it to Susie]
•  I'm really not used to this! [When equipping it to Ralsei]

•  It's too tight! [When attempting to equip it to Susie]

• Mostly a note to myself; Gary is inspired by a mishmash of things from various timespans. This was made to capture a specific aesthetic and vibe for the character: old tech, rich industry owner. Some of the main aesthetics and inspirations for his character were:

•  70s - 80s corporate : vintage tech, ATARI and IBM technology, floppy disks, telephones, old computers, cassette futurism;

•  90s - 20s TV : news stations, cameras, studio lights, CRT TVs;

•  60s - 80s fashion : shoulder pads, big suits, big boots, contrasting colors.

•  Pieces of media: 2001 : A Space Odyssey (1968), American Psycho (2000)

•  Miscellaneous facts (stuff that's not needed in canon but I think is funny for the character!) His favourite band is ABBA, his favourite snacks are laundry pods and he has an untapped loved for gardening. Like his son, he's a Playstation guy and some of his favorite games are the old Sonic platform games. Before that, he was mostly an ATARI fan. Underneath his love for being the center of attention, Gary is extremely intelligent at robotics, being the one who created his own robotic body and Ben's prosthetic limbs. Despite his rich corporate look, Gary can be a very hands-on guy; if he wants something done, he'll do it himself, a trait that carried on from his Spamton days.
