The Meikovans

     An alien species me and my bf created for our DB story!

     They come from a planet called Meikova, which is notable for containing a special mineral (that we haven't named yet) that attracts and absorbs certain kinds of energy. This mineral is found throughout Meikova's core, giving the planet overall a very high "energy gravity." Electricity, heat, and ki are all drawn towards the center of the planet. This causes most outside devices (such as spaceships) to stop functioning inside the planet's atmosphere and makes it difficult for off-worlders to move around at all. The only thing that dampens this energy absorption is water.

     The Meikovans have adapted to this environment by becoming experts at ki control. By mastering all the energy in their bodies, they prevent it from being absorbed by the planet's energy gravity. Over the generations, this mastery led to the discovery of a new transformation. This transformation allows them to avoid feeling any pain or tiredness while it's active, as well as muting their negative emotions. Once they revert back to their base form, however, they'll feel that pain all at once.

     Naturally, Meikovans have white hair and olive to medium-brown skin. While transformed, however, their skin turns a pale white and they gain facial markings which range from red to purple. Their eyes are always dark-colored but lose their shine when they're transformed. Most Meikovans keep their hair long, but women wear theirs down while men traditionally tie it up. Their signature outfit includes a loose one-sleeved robe with tighter underclothes. Individuals who are particularly skilled at ki control (such as warriors or miners) may wear jewelry made from the special mineral, either as a form of training weight or just to show off. Generally, Meikovans are pretty sleek and feminine looking.

     They build their cities around sources of water (rivers, mostly, as Meikova doesn't really have oceans), since that's where agriculture is possible. Though building electronics is extremely difficult on their planet, the Meikovans are skilled engineers. They build large irrigation systems around their cities to create as much habitable land as they can. Lower-class populations live closer to the ground, while the upper classes live higher in the mountains.

     As their transformation became more common, it eventually became the default mode for Meikovans to be in public. They spend their days calm, collected, and immune to pain. Then once they return home, they work out their pain and angst in private. Being in base form in public in considered inappropriate, and revealing your base mode to someone is a sign of deep trust. Other species can learn this transformation, but it's much harder for them to sustain it. Most Meikovans can sustain it for 15-20 hours.

     They're pretty nice and chill people, for the most part, and happy to host any off-worlders who crash on their planet. They can just be emotional messes in private-
