Netty Fernsby

Netty is a cheerful and plucky mailmouse with a resilient personality. She's almost never seen feeling sad or discouraged—though the emphasis here is on "seen". She's a lot lonelier and more anxious than she likes to let on. Abandoned at an orphanage as an infant and never adopted, she has few ties to fall back on and had to become independent quickly. Out of a deep-seated fear that she'll be rejected if she relies too heavily on others, she puts on a brave front.

Aside from her circumstances, her childhood was fairly normal. She got along with some children much better than others, but was never subject to cruelty from her peers or the adults in her life. At the age of nine, she received a plush rabbit (now dubbed Sir Bunnington) in the mail from an unknown sender, which she clung to as a possible connection to her biological family. Partly as a comfort object and partly out of hope that someone may recognize it, she carries him with her everywhere. (Given her small stature and build, she's often mistaken for a child anyway, so it's rare for anyone to judge her for it.)

This event, and how much it meant to her, were what inspired her to become a postal carrier. She's quite serious about her work, though her personal priorities are somewhat skewed—she'd protect Sir Bunnington with her life.

Has an uncanny knack for getting herself into trouble without meaning to.
