Story

Backstory

Centimeter grew up within Riverclan, Tunalxik. When he turned 4, Riverclan experienced a famine for almost a decade due to many extended droughts within their territory. Many Tabaxi clans in Tunalxik do not believe in sharing with other clans, which left Riverclan starving. Centimeter’s parents fled to Sudeolf when he turned 8. While born smaller than the average Tabaxi, the famine severely stunted his growth and now struggles to hold weight. He doesn’t practice Tunalxik’s religion but holds the concept of Starclan dear to his heart. While most of his family’s clan names were accepted during immigration, Centimeter’s clan name was not. His parents, knowing little of Common, chose ‘Centimeter’ as his name because they knew it was a small measurement. He decided to keep his new legal name, but his parents call him Smallspot at home (a reference to the white diamond mark on his head and his short stature).

Childhood

Growing up in Sudeolf, Centimeter’s family opted to keep their clan traditions private. Centimeter was not taught many clan traditions, codes, etc and is very clueless about Tunalxikian culture. Bluedawn would teach him things, but it never felt ‘right’ to him, so he didn’t practice them. Centimeter wanted to fit in with humans and opted not to mention his background at all. He changed parts of himself to assimilate within Sudeolf but his efforts were in vain, as he had no friends to call his own for a very long time. He spent a lot of his time reading books, playing outside by himself, talking to his older sister, and taking care of his younger siblings when they were born.

Adolescence

When Centimeter was 17, he made the decision to travel the continent and explore other countries and their cities. Centimeter wanted to find his place in the world and knew he would not find that in his current hometown— he was also hungry for new experiences and wanted to learn from others about the world. At first his mother didn’t want him to travel and attempted to convince him to stay, but as Centimeter explained his motives, she eventually gave in. Bluedawn was hurt that Centimeter was leaving them and didn’t believe he was mature enough to leave on his own, but he was stubborn. A month into his travels, still within Sudeolf borders, Centimeter discovered ruins of what seemed to be a temple. He decided to camp out inside the ruins for shelter, but he was awoken in the middle of the night by a powerful being. To this day, Centimeter is unsure who or what this person was. The figure placed a powerful curse on him for disturbing the sacred ruins, something Centimeter was not aware of. He felt awful about disrespecting the temple by mistake, but when he went to explain himself, he was surprised to find out he suddenly couldn’t speak anymore. The being left before he could try to explain his honest mistake. Centimeter carries a lot of guilt surrounding the temple and the being who cursed him.

Present

For the past 6 years, Centimeter has traveled the continent on foot by himself. He will settle into a city for some months to do freelance rogue jobs within the rogue organization in the town for money, then leave the city to explore and travel the country.

Trivia

Personality

At first, Centimeter seems stoic and mysterious because he doesn’t speak. Under the surface, he’s curious, quick-thinking, poetic, expressive, knowledgeable, honest, and detail-oriented. He struggles to understand others and his attempts to connect with people can come off as off-putting. Despite his eagerness to share his thoughts about the world around him, Centimeter tends to bite his tongue (as best as he can) to avoid others becoming upset at him or causing a rift between groups. Loves to observe their surroundings and document them (including people).

Centimeter wants to feel in control or else he feels helpless. His need for control can turn into bossiness, but often this trait is subtle because he often does feel in control due to his cunningness and quick-thinking. If anything were to happen, he has the skills to turn the tides in his favor. Otherwise, Centimeter gets bothered and tries to regain control by physical means- shoving, pushing, pointing, etc.
