I've made lots of bad choices and I'll always have to live with the consequences, but would anything even change if I had made better ones?

Positive traits

  • Charming

Negative traits

  • Impatient
  • Insincere
  • Unpredictable
  • Emotionally Volatile

Marius tends to adjust his personality with every person he talks to, to the point where he isn't even sure he knows what his real personality is like. He is very charming, clever and funny, so most people let their guards down around him. He is adaptable and can mold himself into fitting into almost any social situation. He is an extremely skilled liar, which he often uses to his advantage and easily manipulates susceptible minds (ironic, because he was also manipulated rip). He has the typical ADHD and dyslexia combo that all demigods have, so he isn't very patient and gets restless when he has to wait for anything. He is fairly intelligent, but doesn't do well in school (he dropped out in 9th grade); so he's street smart, but not very book smart. While he does come off as aloof and uncaring, he actually cares way too much about things and is very emotional; he's just good at hiding it.

Story

Early Childhood

Marius was born October 30 to mother, Katherine Montgomery - a famous young Broadway star, and father, the Greek god Apollo. His father was never in the picture (nor did he know until years later that his father was a Greek god), but his father's presence loomed over him his entire life from his mother constantly scolding him with, "what would your father think?". Marius was blessed (or cursed, depending on how you look at it) with an angelic singing voice, so his mother insisted that he follow in her footsteps and become a Broadway actor. He began acting at the age of five, with his first role being Gavroche in Les Miserables (which also happened to be the first show his mother ever performed in, as young Cosette) and he immediately became an overnight sensation, much to his mother's delight.

After that, he performed in countless shows and became a well-known child star in the musical theatre community. Despite the outstanding praise he received from audiences and critics alike, his mother would always seem unsatisfied after every performance, which made Marius think he wasn't acting well enough. In reality, his mother had been using him to try to get the attention of Apollo by basically flaunting him on stage for years, since she hadn't seen the god since their two-week long affair and she had it in her mind that he might come back to her someday if their son was brilliant. However, he never appeared, no matter how well Marius did. In the beginning, Marius greatly enjoyed singing and acting, because he thought it was fun and it seemed to please his mother; but as the years went on and his mother became impossible to please, his enjoyment for the art faded.

Arrival at Camp Half-blood

Marius had always had vivid dreams that would sometimes predict minor future events (like getting a callback for a show, a pop quiz in school, etc), but at age thirteen, he began having a horrible reccuring nightmare where a hideous old hag with talons, jagged teeth, and long feathers growing out of her arms would attack him at the theatre he often performed at. These nightmares went on for months and were accompanied by Marius thinking he saw strange creatures on the streets around him, but they would be gone when he blinked, so he just chalked it up to lack of sleep. The nightmares became more and more frequent until one day, he was performing in a huge production at the theatre from his dreams as Jack in "Into the Woods", when he saw the old hag from his nightmares standing at the end of the center aisle.

It wasn't a common occurence that he would mess up a performance, but it was as if his throat closed up from fear, rendering him speechless. However, just as soon as she had appeared, she was gone without a trace. Marius was chewed out by his mother afterwards, but he couldn't provide a logical explanation for why he had frozen up. She made him run his lines countless times that night and when he finally was able to go to sleep, the nightmare had changed. The hag was still there, but instead of attacking him, she just slowly walked up the center aisle, cackling, until she reached the stage and said, "we found you", before disappearing in a burst of feathers and smoke. The new nightmare unnerved him even more than the old one and he spent the entire day on-edge. On top of that, a strange kid in his class named Glen told him that same day that he should call out sick from rehearsal that evening and stay home. When Marius asked why he should do that, Glen just gave a vague response that answered none of Marius' questions.

Despite Glen's warning, Marius performed in his show that night, which went off without a hitch until the curtain call. After his first bow, he raised his head and saw the nightmare hag at the end of the center aisle yet again. He tried to ignore her and finish the curtain call, but that's when she started walking down the aisle towards him; no one else seeming to pay her much heed. As soon as his cue came to leave the stage, he booked it back to his dressing room and locked himself inside. His mother was performing in a different play that night, so the dressing room was empty, save for him. He tried to catch his breath and convince himself that he was just seeing things, until the knocking began. The knocking started out as a few soft taps, like a pen being tapped against the door, but they quickly escalated until it seemed like whatever was outside was slamming its body against the door. Terrified and without any way to escape, Marius tried to hide in the corner behind the clothing rack. The door soon burst off its hinges and the creature stepped in.

It was the old hag, but she was so much more horrifying than she had ever looked in his nightmares or in the center aisle. Her face and torso were that of an old woman (save for the dripping jagged teeth that filled her mouth}, but blood-red feathers took the place of where her arms should be and from the thighs down, her legs looked like eagle legs with razor sharp talons at the end of each toe. Marius tried to hold his breath, but it didn't matter, because the creature immediately sniffed him out, knocked aside the rack of clothes and charged directly at him. He didn't have a chance to react before he was knocked to the ground, her talons squeezed tightly around his throat. He tried to escape, but the monster was too strong and he could feel himself slowly losing consciousness. In a desperate attempt, he grabbed a shard of glass from a broken vase on the floor and jammed it into her eye as hard as he could muster. The shock and pain made her release her grip and he managed to escape. As he was running for the door, she attacked him again, this time the sharp talons at the ends of her wings scraping across his face, knocking him back onto the floor from the force of the blow. He tried to call out for help, but his vocal chords were damaged from the attack and his throat filled with blood. Just as the monster approached and he began to accept his death, Glen came from behind the monster and stabbed an old curtain rod through her chest. Marius barely had time to process that Glen had goat legs instead of human ones, before Glen had grabbed his hand and forced him out the door. The two ran (sort of, Marius staggered more-so than ran) out into the New York streets, with Glen rambling about how he should've had "more time" and "harpies" and other nonsense that Marius couldn't make out. Marius was able to make it until they ducked into an alleyway, where he subsequently lost consciousness.

When he finally came to, he was in an unfamiliar place. A boy around his age greeted him and introduced himself as Lee Fletcher, head councilor of Cabin 7. Marius tried to ask questions, but his voice was too damaged from the monster attack. Lee told him to rest and that he would explain everything when Marius felt a little better. It took him nearly a week to partially recover, with the help of ambrosia and nectar. Once he was well enough to get out of bed, Lee introduced him to the world of gods, demigods, and Camp Half-blood. Marius didn't believe him at first, but he slowly came to terms with it, since there was no way else to explain the monster that attacked him. Once he made a full recovery, he was introduced to Luke Castellan and placed in Cabin 11 (Hermes), where he would stay until he was claimed. He found out later that Glen was the satyr sent to protect him and had gotten strictly reprimanded since Marius had gotten so injured and nearly died. Marius and Glen would occasionally see each other around camp afterwards, but their exchanges were kept to occasional awkward greetings.
