Species: Half-devil

Skills:

Abilities/Fighting Style: i'll make a tab sometime, but uses dual swords that can combine into a single longer weapon

Height: ~169cm

Affiliation: Devil May Cry

Personality: Umbra can seem a bit cold and rather harsh thanks to her bluntness in conversation and relentlessness in combat, but her bitter exterior masks an unwillingly fragile heart that harbors many emotions. Her heart does not forget kindness or betrayal, and once she has formed a relationship with someone, she is fiercely loyal and tries to keep them safe at all costs.

Story: (contains spoilers for Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4, and Devil May Cry 5)

wip. Born to a devil mother and human father, Umbra and Aurore could have been shown the best of both worlds. However, soon after they were born, their father learned that their mother wasn't human, and instead was a devil (he hadn't known before), and ran away, ceasing all contact with them. As a result, Umbra and Aurore were raised by their devil mother, and learned more about their devil side than their human side. Although not the most conventional childhood, it was nice, and Umbra was happy. However, it soon came to an end, with Umbra's world crashing down before their mother was killed. Umbra and Aurore barely escaped with their lives, and had to grow up learning to fend for themselves, trusting only each other. Umbra always protected Aurore, getting her out of any bad situations she might have gotten herself into. As a result, when Umbra told her that they should learn more about their human side, claiming that they would benefit from embracing their humanity, Aurore didn't hesitate to trust her and agree to try.

Eventually, when Umbra and Aurore each had a different place they wanted to go, Aurore suggested that they split up so that they were both happy and meet up later. To Umbra, at the time, it seemed like nothing more than an innocent suggestion to satisfy them both, and agreed to it without much of a second thought. It was during this time that Umbra encountered Dante, deciding to help out around his yet unnamed shop. Eventually, Dante's clash with his brother Vergil led Umbra to find her own twin Aurore. Throughout the Temen-ni-gru incident, Aurore and Umbra never seriously fought, though they did use the battles as a way to test how they had improved in their time apart. When it eventually brought them to the demon world, the two of them stayed out of Dante and Vergil's fight for the sealed power, instead spectating the fight together.

What Umbra had not been prepared for was when Aurore chose to stay in the demon world. Umbra had wanted to stay with Aurore now that they had reunited, but she had also gotten invested in her affairs in the human world. Aurore knew that Umbra would follow her into the demon world rather than return to the human world given the chance, but Aurore knew that that wasn't what Umbra really wanted. So before Umbra could realize what was happening, Aurore used Umbra's sword Salvation to impale Umbra, the force of the blow sending Umbra back into the human world, too late to return to the demon world to Aurore.

After that, Umbra remained with Dante, helping run Devil May Cry. This eventually led the two of them to Mallet Island. Umbra, having separated from Dante when they arrived, faced many foes here, though most notably Lux Messorem. The final time she fought Lux Messorem, Umbra defeated her, realizing that Lux Messorem was in fact her sister Aurore. Despite the situation, Umbra had no intention of killing Aurore. But Lux Messorem took the opening to impale herself on Umbra's sword Sin, killing Lux Messorem. This event deeply distressed Umbra, as she believed that it meant she had killed her own sister. It gave her nightmares for years that never truly stopped.

When Dante, Trish, and Lady all went to Fortuna, Umbra joined them. It was here that she first met Nero, choosing to call him a "little bumblebee." No one, Nero included, understood what the name meant or why she had chosen it, yet it was something that persisted for Umbra's entire stay in Fortuna. The incident was wrapped up without much issue, and the four friends returned to Devil May Cry.

Things continued on like normal until one fateful day, when two people calling themselves V and Somnia came to Devil May Cry, claiming that they had a commission for Dante and Umbra. More specifically, that they wanted the two of them to kill "Vergil" and "Aurore." This was deeply shocking to Umbra, as she believed that she had already killed Aurore years ago. Although she accepted the job, she had no real intention of killing Aurore again. Thus, the four of them, alongside Lady and Trish, went to deal with the demons that had been dubbed Urizen and Eve. Umbra could tell that Eve was Aurore, though she found that Eve was far more emotionless than Aurore had been. But it didn't matter much, as Eve did not seem to recognize Umbra, and Umbra (alongside Dante, Trish, Lady, and Nero) was defeated by Urizen and Eve.

A month passed before Somnia located Umbra, informing her that the herself, V, and Nero were headed to attempt to subdue Eve and Urizen again. So Umbra joined them, climbing the Qliphoth until finally reaching the top, where Eve awaited. This time, Umbra was the one to defeat Eve, with Somnia, V, and Nero arriving only once Dante and Umbra had finished their respective battles. Somnia asked to end Eve with her own hands, something that Umbra wasn't keen on, as she didn't want to let her sister die again. However, Somnia offered only a short word to Umbra, claiming that it would be okay. Moments before Somnia ended Eve with her parasol, Umbra realized what was going to happen, but didn't try to stop it. In a flash of light, both the human and the demon disappeared, replaced only by the half-demon Aurore.

Umbra's first reaction was a blind, disbelieving rage. After everything that had happened, her sister hadn't even thought to inform Umbra that she was alive? After forcing Umbra to kill her? Despite being worn down by the countless battles earlier that day, she attacked Aurore over and over. But Aurore effortlessly and harmlessly disarmed Umbra, instructing her to collect herself and meet her once she had. With that, Aurore disappeared alongside Vergil into his portal. Aurore's words had only enraged Umbra more. As Umbra made her way to where Aurore waited, she fought Somnia's remaining familiars, who claimed to want to kill Umbra. Umbra ended the three of them with her own hands and continued towards Aurore. When she finally reached her sister, few words were exchanged before they began fighting, appearing to have even more of a desire to kill each other than the two brothers beside them. But their battle ended before Nero arrived, with both of them in each others arms in tears.

Beginning to have finally made amends, the two of them follow Dante and Vergil to the demon world to deal with the Qliphoth roots, and remain there for several months. But eventually, they return to their friends, going back to Devil May Cry.

-short compared to Dante and everyone around Devil May Cry, but is in reality fairly average in height

-her sleeves are very baggy

-same skin color, hair color, and eye color as Aurore

-her hair is in a ponytail, but it is roughly the same length as Aurore's when down

-leggings are tight

-designs on her coat are symmetrical

-technically identical to Aurore. if you put them in the same outfits with the same hairstyle, theoretically they'd be impossible to tell apart (though their actions would give them away)
