Blackwood is a brutal country with a brutal people. Typically tall and lithe in build, with stormy grey to onyx black skin and hair ranging from black to silver. Blackwoods are inherently dark magic users, gifted to their bloodlines by the goddess Uir; The Earth Mother. Generally, Blackwoods believe that Uir is the mother of their entire race and that she walked among them for thousands of years before suddenly disappearing (along with the other gods) centuries ago, leaving her devoted followers to carry out her divine plan to take over the whole continent and cleanse it of her opposers. For whatever reason, female babies are rare in Blackwood, with only about 1 in 8 babies being female. Not only is fertility low, but chances of survival past 5 are also low with dangerous creatures in the night that prey on the small and weak. As such, Blackwoods are fiercely protective of their children as a community. Women often collect male harems during rut season to increase her chance of conception, and all of her partners take part in raising and protecting her offspring. The more dads, the better protected your kids. And also, because female babies are so rare, they're believed to be blessings from Uir herself; a gift to her most faithful followers to be cherished and revered through her whole life. To disrespect a woman is to disrespect The Earth Mother herself.
