AI Zen is the personality and memories of Zen Shanx condensed in portable AI form. He was created as a form of "salvage" as the original Zen's body was dying and was unable to be repaired. After Zen died, the AI personality was inserted into an organic body that was identical to the original Zen. The new Zen escaped the facility into the Uruthian wasteland, unknowing that he was in fact an AI inside the body, fully believing that he was the original Zen. Zen lived for around six months wandering the wastelands, believing that he had been forgotten about by family and friends and grew bitter over time towards them. When he happened to come across them he was reluctant to leave the form of life he had created on his own but no less he left with them.

It was later revealed to him that he was an AI when the body he was using was mangled in an airship crash and he was activated as a holographic system. Zen was given a new organic body by the Loce but his awareness of his being allowed him to move between the body and being a part of existing systems. He took over the Mariana S.C and manipulated those around him to murder and destroy the soul of the reincarnation of Zen, Larsa but proved unsuccessful. He became increasingly manic due to self-awareness and began to stalk and monitor those around him, believing they all wanted him dead and had sided with Larsa. This mindset was further encouraged when Zen was planted with a Virus by Sylus which consisted of his systems converting into full offensive force, amplifying his aggression and playing on his negative memories to drive him to try and kill Larsa and Tango. He was shut down and reset afterwards, understanding that he was too much of a danger and that he should be destroyed. Despite this revelation, Mortala continued to use Zen as a database of old knowledge on the dimension of Alpha. Zen, along with others, discovered the Alphaen gate and passed through with the help of Mictian, Jett and Kada. Once inside, the heart of Adularia decided to manifest itself as Zen. The heart converted the data from Zen's AI chip and brought him back into a physical form created from ancient organic technology. As the heart took the data from Zen's projected appearance as an AI the body he was gifted was created in the exact same appearance, making every part of his being blue.
