Whalefall Kaiju 🌊

Inspired by Whalefall footage and my favourite Japanese Yokai!
Bake-kujira are the ghosts of whales that are brutally killed by fishermen, who hunt whale killers for revenge!

This phantom fought a deadly battle with a harpoon weilding fisherwoman, ending in whale, boat and crew succumbing to the tide.
Enraged, the limp whale’s body hit the sea floor and became home to a horde of sea scavengers, its body “filled with life” once more.
Blinded by a new fierce desire to protect its kin and all marine life, the corpse became a demon and grew immensely in size.
This monstrous Yokai now stalks the largest of whaling vessels from beneath the waves, leaving no trace or survivor.

Note: As an ode to japanese artwork, I included waves inspired by the famous “Great Wave off Kanagawa” Ukiyo-e woodblock print !!
