He grew up within the organization that defends the border from the dark lands, and because of this, became quite powerful. He was regarded as a celebrity, though that led to him being lonely up until he met Ravynn, the first person to truly try to get to know him.

At first, thanks to his loneliness, time is stopped for him; it's as though he's frozen. Therefore, he has ice magic. But later on, once he begins to heal, he becomes more passionate and radiant. And as such, his dragon breath changes from ice to fire.
He is also able to mimic the magic of those around him; likely stemming in some way from how he tries to mirror/imitate other's hopes and expectations of him.
