shapeshifting demon - part of a species. feeds off of souls + organs and raw meat. not able to handle cooked food or keep it down. the species only gains strength via eating souls which allows them to keep a stronger form without getting exhausted easily. they typically "hunt" humans via manipulating them over time until they trust them to be alone. usually attempts to be someone's partner of some sort. the species typically enjoys the thrill of working for their meal though they aren't above causing accidents or staking out common dangerous areas to get an easy bite. ever see a weird animal run across the highway and almost slam your breaks? could've caused a crash? yeah.
the species also has a habit of abandoning their children. they can get with humans and the child with always be partially a shapeshifter. the species abandons them due to the fact they'll eat them to thin out the competition & for self preservation. (ie "what if my child grows up and is stronger than me? i think not") francis has a grown child out there somewhere, he's somewhat aware but is aware he may become violent should he find them. they are not "family" creatures
he's very weak for his species, unable to commit to the hunt and kill anything to eat their soul. he feels too guilty as he gets closer to his target and ultimately never kills them. he's what the species would call "starving"
the demon species typically learn how to transform via seeing the subject. though this leads to misunderstandings if they don't see how it works. visual learners.
unlike the rest of his kind, francis learned how to read (the others find this skill utterly useless to their survival) due to his interest in wanting to expand his knowledge. to better his shifting. though this does lead to more misunderstandings on his part as he doesn't understand certain phrases such as "false eyes" or "mask" as he may think it means real eyes that just don't work or a mask like a human wears. his shifting can sometimes have mistakes.
shapeshifters all have a real form, which is some sort of tiny blob/squid shape. they're considered a pest among demon and angel kind alike as they consume human souls. it's too much effort to kill them so they're often just tossed in a jar if captured. which is why the species is so keen on not getting weak enough to lose any form bigger than their true one.
they also have a hard time agreeing with one another and may fight, but not to the point of death usually. bullying is common among the species. francis is often pushed around if he encounters another one though he tends to keep his distance if he sniffs another out.

he just wants to be around people. he loves life and learning. he just wants to be a person. he does his best to be peaceful.
when shifting, the only thing that can't change are his eyes. they must stay pink - check the second image in gallery for some vague rules
francis is fond of only doing partial shifts and mixing parts from creatures together but he can change his entire form - if drawn, please try to stick to partial shifts
he's never seen without his beanie + heart shades. people don't seem to recognize him without his heart shades.
