He was a well-known Bounty Hunter in his Village; who was always able to track down and find bounties within a near by forest without fail. He grew up in that very forest; knowing all of its ins and outs. One could even say he understood how it felt and what it said.
One day, an elderly came to his cabin seeking aid, and he helped her without question. She then revealed herself to be a beautiful sorceress, and wanted to repay him for his kindess. She presented to him an animal skull with 4 horns made of wood. " Wear this, " She said, " And all will bare witness to your sudden strength and speed. "
Indeed, everytime he put on the skull helmet, he felt so much more powerful and faster. He caught any and all who dared harm the people of his Village. Everyone praised him. Loved him. While he did not like the popularity previously, he was starting to enjoy it now. Slowly his ego grew.
She was still with him. In his cabin. One night, she revealed herself to actually be a Witch, but it was too late for the Bounty Hunter. The skull helmet latched onto his face and permanently fixured itself upon his head. Blood wept from his eyes beneath. He succumbed to the change, and could not resist the temptation. In mere minutes, a whole other entity seemed to take control. Now, he was her Jester; a fool who did her bidding. The forest was now hers, and over time it withered and decayed from her dark powers.
The Village became abandoned. A husk of its formerly glory.
They say he still wanders the forest. Giggling madly with a tinkle of his little glowing bells. Somwtimes he uses them like whisps to lure people into and through the Forest. Always taking them to her to feed on them, or usefor a ritual.
They say he can be heard weeping some nights. A sad echo of the Forest. The man, the former Bounty Hunter, sad that he had become such a thing. But they never last. In time, they are replaced by giggles.
Replaced with the trickster of a Jester.
