Myra Antares

Your name is MYRA ANTARES and you like to think of yourself as an AMATEUR DETECTIVE. In truth you are kind of a busybody who pokes her nose into other people’s business and makes a nuisance of herself. If only solving real mysteries was as easy as in the POINT AND CLICK ADVENTURES and ALTERNATE REALITY GAMES that you so enjoy. You are especially fond of the latter kind of games, the more they blur the line between fiction and reality, the better you like them. Secret Websites, midnight phone calls, BINARY CODE PUZZLES—these are your bread and butter.

Adjacent to your interest in mysteries, is your interest in the PARANORMAL and CRYPTOZOOLOGICAL. Ghosts, goblins, bigfoot and mothman better watch out. You’re onto them! Conspiracies about politics and things tend to bore you, but RAINS OF FROGS are right up your alley. You also have started to dabble in coding, at least as much as it pertains to solving puzzles of the computer variety.

Thanks to your hobbies you tend to be a NIGHT PERSON and you drink a lot of COFFEE to help you stay SHARP AND ALERT at all times. Maybe, just maybe you’re a little high strung. The other reason you tend to stay up late is your TERRIBLE NIGHTMARES. Thanks to these factors, you tend to be asleep when your father (an actual cop) is at home. Like you, he WORKS NIGHTS. You keep the coffee fresh and hot for him.

You have a solid network of friends and acquaintances on the online underground, though a few of them may be secretly or not so secretly annoyed by you. That doesn’t bother you though. A PRIVATE EYE like you plan to be doesn’t get through life without making a few enemies.

Backstory: Myra was raised by her father, a police detective on the homicide squad. She grew up raised by a combination of his devoted if-overly-justice focused attentions, and a slew of late night monster movies and police procedurals. Home alone a lot of the time Myra has learned to be self-reliant, at least as far as microwaving her own food is concerned. Myra looks up to her father, though she thinks regular police work is a little boring, and would rather be solving the mysteries of cryptozoology, or riddle-leaving serial killers.

Personality:  Myra puts on a tough act and can come off as bossy and overly concerned with other people’s business. Internally, she is constantly overcome with curiosity, and can be a little obsessive. She’s a bold and confrontational offline as she is online, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. That said, she considers herself a smooth operator, and will try to use charm in order to get answers or whatever she wants from people. Too bad she doesn’t have much charm. What she lacks in charisma she makes up for in smarts at least. She tends to think before acting, even if sometimes she doesn’t pick the smartest option, and can make things harder for herself than they need to be. If there’s one thing Myra gravitates toward, its unnecessary complications.

Looks: Pale, and covered in freckles, Myra has long, curly black hair which she wears often in a ponytail. She is tall, and skinny and awkward, with  a long face and a sharp nose. She doesn't wear makeup, and usually has large bags under her eyes. She has a fondness for t-shirts and jeans, and often wears her prize possession, a big red trenchcoat.
