TW: potential trigger warnings go here Xander grew up a peasant in a rural farmhouse with parents devoted to a dark god of indulgence at the cost of self sacrifice in the form of essential organs, in which the god would keep them alive despite the missing tissue. At the age of five Xander's parents disappeared at their ritual in the woods and never came back. After waiting for days alone, he eventually wandered out only to be found by a traveling guard of the nearest city. The guard took the boy, unable to read and barely able to speak, to the city's orphanage where Xander grew up, unsocialized and unwilling to start. The orphanage was sponsored by the religion of a voiceless god, which seemingly chose children at random to make paladins or clerics. Xander was chosen and put into clerical classes where he learned how to heal magically.

At the age of 18 he remained unadopted, and thus was thrust into society with nowhere to go. He eventually managed to convince a local doctor to take him in and sponsor his education, where he learned how to heal without magic. At the age of 23, a woman shot by an arrow after her duty as town guardsmen arrived into Xander's clinic and took a liking to him. After he took care of her, suddenly the woman, Elincia, would find ways to stumble back into his care. Xander was puzzled as to why she would have an interest in him, and after two years they eventually married. Xander was sent to war as a 35 year old as a medic, as a region wide war created a draft of his city. During this war, he sustained a face wound to his eye, causing a magical laceration that destroyed his eye and in which cannot ever heal with even magic. He later finds out this blade belongs to a cult member among his parents. After five years of combat and sparse letters back home, he finally returned home, only to find his wife murdered in a dark arcane ritual in their home, with the cultish symbol carved into him now sprawled in ichor. His wife's death sent him spiraling, pushing him over the edge into an unstoppable rage at whoever killed his wife. He has wandered the land for 10 years in a relentless hunt with few leads. Xander now wanders the land in search for clues to his wife's killer, and the nature of his voiceless god, fulled by rage and despair.
