A rogue sorceress defined by the troubles she's had, made and earned, with her mind set on the insurmountable.

A nameless street orphan and petty thief as a child, she made a modest attempt at living by scouring between the city's tight alleyways, trying to make use of her innate magic, despite how often they backfired as they led to wild surges. But eventually, one day marked by a particularly dragged out chase by the city's guard, she had made it far enough from her usual borough to stumble across a place crawling with odd folks, masters of the magic she had struggled with so often. Mystified, she walked in; if any place was to help her decipher the source of her magic, this was it.
Hastily and finally coming up with a name for herself, she tries to enroll on her own, and despite the obvious infringement in regulations it'd be, the wizards present decided the rare appearance of a sorcerer in these lands was far too unique of an opportunity to be let up. As an orphan, the academy's student quarters had become her first and only home, and as comfortable as she was for once in her life, she remained well aware those wizards meant little more than just to study her bewildering nature. And so she kept on with her affinity for troublemaking and constantly tricking others, despite their best efforts at educating her in not just magic but also manners. Dusk was simply not inclined to learning, and in the rare cases where she even managed to pull off casting any spells, they were often accompanied by wild magic surges. Defeated, the wizards gave up on having her follow the career of a wizard and limited her learning to just basic, simple spells and cantrips to prevent the collateral damage her sorcery so often inflicted.
For this, she ended up resenting them for restraining her potential, all while inflating her own ego and developing a superiority complex as she thought the wizards were simply too jealous and afraid of her own "excellence" as someone with magic inherent to their being. With this discontent and arrogance growing through the years, she was eventually sent away on a journey when she came of age, tasked with retrieving an ancient relic as the "chosen one". In reality, the wizards had simply tired of her attitude and sent her away in a deliberately impossible mission so she'd leave their academy, all while further inflating her ego in hopes of having it soon burst in the optimistic scenario she came to realize of her own inability and turned humble enough to return to the academy as one willing to study once more.
...unfortunately, 8 years have passed since, and despite eventually tracking the relic down, she's closing in on the realization if she is to retrieve it, she may require the aid of others, much to her own chagrin.

Unable to reliably cast spells or even hit cantrips, she instead wields a crossbow, the type which she has long practiced with, in hopes they'd prove useful to also aid in the aiming of spells one day. This crossbow she now uses is custom built to allow storage of magic energy, ready to imbue arrows. By casting cantrips directly into it's wooden handle, the energy is harnessed and applied to the next arrow shot by it.

Dusk has the blood of a yellow dragon flowing through her, as someone born of the extremely rare chance that one enjoyed someone else's company enough to developed something akin to a loving relationship. But when she was actually born, without any plans to raise a child, the dragon was furious, and he cast the mother out along with the newborn. For this, the mother eventually began to also resent Dusk for being born, abandoning her out of spite and as a test to prove Dusk's own worth, as one who could survive on their own in this harsh world. Despite her human parent, Dusk was born a tiefling due to her mother's infernal contract which was what allowed her to be powerful enough to live with a chromatic dragon in the first place.
