Quill

Quill is the champion of the bird people. They were always seen as a bit of an outsider among their peer group; not disliked, exactly, but certainly not welcomed with open arms. Quill preferred to keep to animals and their own work mentoring under the community’s magician. They were something of a shut-in; nobody knew them terribly well. To those that did know them well–which is to say, mostly just their mentor–Quill is thoughtful and kind-hearted, with an eye for solutions and a sense of duty to those they care for. Quill is somewhat preoccupied with themselves, though, and if someone does not take well to their offered solutions they tend to get huffy. They will protect their people, but first and foremost, Quill is going to protect themself. The bird people once inhabited the lower reaches, using their power of flight to soar from island to island with ease. The dragon stole the levitating ability of the lower reaches and the birds’ power of flight; they are now grounded, doomed to spend the rest of their generations aching for the sky. Quill ached more than most and sought to use their skills in enchanting to create a tool that would allow them to take to the skies. Before they were able to, though, a number of monsters invaded the town, something that was practically unheard of. They went directly for Quill and tried to kill them; as Quill fended the monsters off, something clicked, and they heard the voice of the earth urging them to seek out the other champions. With evidence of monsters directly targeting them, Quill’s people cast them out. They urged Quill to fulfill their destiny–but truthfully, they just wanted safety to return to their village. With little besides a blade enchanted by their old mentor, Quill set out, hoping to come across the other champions the earth had mentioned.
