Scatter used to be a fully devout follower of Scorch and the Messiah, but has long since lost faith in their vision when Firestar came of age and Scorch's methods of "purifying" the world became more violent in nature. However, he - along with others - have been too scared to leave as they are being closely watched over by Scorch's guards.
