Salaun is a cleric of Lathander, god of the dawn, youth, new beginnings and creativity... or so he thinks.

His faith is nonetheless very important to him as it got him through a  very difficult time in his life. As a result he can be a bit of a  suck-up and morally uptight, when he actually doesn't know the first  thing about how to be an upstanding citizen. He's still learning and  he's REALLY trying to be a good person.

Even if he is kind to a fault, this doesn't make him naive and he  doesn't let himself get pushed around. He talks back easily to people,  even to authority, he disagrees with and he's not without edge.

Story

Salaun was raised in an emotionally and physically abusive aristocratic family in the far north of Faerun. He doesn't consider them to have been abusive and he doesn't consider himself to be traumatized; however they were, and he is. He would however consider himself to be furious, resentful, and to hate them and never want to see them or be like them ever again.

He is, unbeknownst to him, a warlock of Tharizdun, the chained god who created the Abyss.  The ancient god interfered with the voice of Lathander when Salaun was  let into a temple of Lathander after escaping from his abusive family. Since then, Salaun utterly believes the cryptic dreams and disembodied voices he hears are a manifestation of Lathander when it's actually the Dark Sun of Tharizdun.

His association with Tharizdun is actually the work of his family, coming from a lineage of noble cultists set on liberating the chained god. This wasn't perfectly planned since his family had more or less long forgotten the true purpose of their bloodline, only now focusing on accessing power through violence. Ironically, it's when escaping the family he disagrees with on a fundamental level that Tharizdun could finally get a grip on his mind.

To add insult to injury, the friend he's been travelling with since he got away from his family, the paladin Tocsin, who he believes to be one his parent's many war messengers, is actually an envoy from her order to spy on him and make sure he doesn't meddle with the dark arts. She however doesn't  know who his true god is. She would rather stay by his side and  encourage him towards a righteous path than reveal to him that he's not  an actual cleric and risk him lashing out.

Trivia

  • He is of draconic descent, hence the slit eyes and the fact all his siblings are sorcerers.
  • He has a really low body temperature.
  • He's an insomniac
  • Even if he resents his family and gave up all his belongings to the Temple of Lathander, he still has a learned "refined" taste for things.
notes

  • His forehead mark appeared when "Lathander" first talked to him, he doesn't have it when he's young.
  • He always keeps his signet ring on his left annular. The gem on it helps him cast spells.
  • He has dark circles under his eyes most of the time.
