Appearance:

Coal is rather average for his age, and, at times, tends to blend in with the crowd a little. He can often be found with a vacant expression on his face, staring off into space. Despite enjoying physical activity, he's not that fit and is a touch on the lanky side. 

Coal has six tentacles on top of his head, which layer in a 3-2-1 manner. He also has small bits of hair poking out from either side of his head. His tips are naturally red, however, they change colour to match whatever Coal's ink colour is (typically a darker version of the colour). 

Personality:
Always on the go, Coal is like a spark that never burns out. He's very energetic and almost always has energy to burn. Coal loves physical activities, especially Turf Wars, although he’s not that competitive and just enjoys being able to participate. He’s the cheery sort and rather happy-go-lucky; Coal is pretty easy to get along with. However, he is a tad overexcitable, and does overreact sometimes. He’s also a little impulsive and rash, especially if Coal feels pressured in anyway.

Coal is a daydreamer; he is prone to drifting off into a world of his own. He has difficulty concentrating and while he never intends to, he often zones out of a conversation. He’s absent minded and forgets things asked of or told to him. As such, he is often disorganised. Due to his attention issues, Coal struggles in school. While he is a bright kid and more than capable in all his subjects, his inability to concentrate makes it difficult for him to pick up on important information or instructions.

He is a terrible fidget. Coal struggles to sit still for extended periods of time, and gets restless typically after an hour or two of sitting down. He needs frequent breaks to get up and walk around. However, he is almost always doing something with his hands, fiddling with whatever is in easy reach. Coal is also very heavy handed, so he’ll often break the things he is fidgeting with - he is constantly replacing his glasses for this reason.

Coal tries to act like a big brother for both his siblings and friends. He adores his younger sister Moxie and would do anything for her. He is always looking out for her, and tries to bail her out of any trouble she gets into (without telling mum or dad). Being older than Locke, he tries to act as a stand-in-big-brother, trying his best to be a good mentor and senpai. However, Coal isn’t really the “dependable big brother” type, so his efforts don’t always work out how he plans. It’s not uncommon for Moxie and Locke to be looking out for Coal instead.

Backstory:
Coal is the middle of three children and he’s very close to both his siblings. Growing up, his big brother always looked out for him, and Coal admired him a lot. As such, he tries to be the same for his younger sister Moxie. Ever since he was little, Coal has always struggled in school, as he is too distracted and absent minded to get his work done on time. As such, he didn’t get along with many of his teachers (and still doesn’t) so Coal has never liked school. When he was old enough he got a job with Grizzco and has been working there for about a year, doing shifts with Locke and Tint. He’s generally regarded as hard-working but easily distracted, the later making him a liability at times. Coal signed up as he needed money so he could purchase the weapon and gear he wanted; he doesn’t really think about the work he’s doing.

Strengths:

The blaster is a powerful weapon capable of splatting in one hit. With correct spacing and aim, Coal can quickly splat opponents, and if his aim is a bit off he can still finish them off with a second hit. His toxic mist sub makes it easier for him to aim correctly, but also supports his teammates by slowing down the opponents and cutting off pathways.

Weaknesses: 

Despite it’s power, Coal needs to be accurate with his aim and properly space himself to land the hit. Without any subs to defend himself with, missing his shots gives the opponents the opening to turn it back on Coal and splat him instead. Due to his airheaded nature, Coal is often lacking in foresight, making it difficult for him to set himself up properly.
 

Fun Facts:

 Coal has astigmatism; his glasses are actually prescription glasses.
 Coal is actually quite frugal with his money, banking it away to save up for things he really wants. However, it’s not uncommon for him to lose or forget about his money before it makes it to his money box.
 Is most likely to borrow something and never return it.
