the Virelli's now Interstellar "Commonwealth" used to be a Federation of Monarchies located in just one region of their Planet. lead by the Emperor of Vehnel over many smaller Kingdoms and Duchy, at that time it is called the "Second Vioterrean Empire"  before abolition and later execution led by a growingly discontent Population with the help of the Formerly Imperial Parliaments which later call themselves just "The Parliament"  The Revolution were called the "Monarchomach"  and it lead to a French revolution-like social effect on the Commonwealth which almost cause it to fall apart until one strong leader, the Revolutionary Hero and First Prime Minister Napie'ri to deal with it and saving the new Commonwealth The position of prime minister would later be abolished and bring back multiple time as the parliament and scope of the Commonwealth go larger with it now seen as a emergency position only reserved for the most dire time but not all Monarch under the commonwealth were deposed or executed some which is popular enough which decided to give in the demand still got to hold their position Until eventually as Virellia's population grows and everything become more urban, increasingly larger scope of common identity take hold, this monarchies would be abolished too, albeit in a more peaceful manner.
and in shorter term First thing they do is mass murder of most Kings and other Monarch in a bloody revolution
The Commonwealth has not always been an Starfaring star state. at the point of their revolution they are only as advance as the early 19th century/1800s
