Profile

Role in Story

Guinevere’s elder sister. The main antagonist of [White Rose], and a secondary antagonist in [Shady Violet.] She’s a narcissist that has latched onto Guin and uses her until Guin can’t stand it anymore and leaves. She’s a skilled liar and manipulator, and will convince others that her actions are always righteous and compassionate.

Goal

To have fun with life and enjoy her youth and the attention of others.

Physical Description

Long, straight, strawberry-blonde hair. Deep, navy eyes. Super pale skin, with beauty marks in a lot of enticing places. She’s as curvy as Guin, but much shorter and daintier — 5’ 2” and soft, with carefully-concealed chub.

Personality

Bitchy, narcissistic party girl. The type to tell every boy she sleeps with it’s her first time. Something of a method actor, and she works hard to convince everyone, including herself, she’s a Good Girl™.  She’s spoiled rotten and doesn’t have any self-discipline. Nothing is ever her fault. She doesn’t gossip, she spreads information. Bubbly and sugar-sweet, and charismatic just like her mother.

Occupation

Florist

Hooker/Sugar Baby

Habits/Mannerisms

Tends to layer trendy crop-tops over oversized undershirts — she plays it off as modesty, but she’s really just hiding her weight as hard as she can.  Also has an unconscionable collection of heels. Has an equally unconscionable collection of sexy-cute lingerie. Overall dresses for a very cute, girly image.

Likes wearing jewelry with Christian motifs to help with her “good girl” image.

Despite her personality and materialistic nature, she’s actually domestically adept. She can cook well, clean well, do laundry and whatever else. She’s also quite good at her job as a florist. She weaponizes her competence to look like a cute, adorable traditional girl.

She only gets “exercise” while working or when she joins her mother for her workouts (at least twice a week, because “she’s a good daughter”). Otherwise she’s too lazy.

Background

Elaine was the center of her mother’s world from the time she was born. The sole hiccup was when Aurora became pregnant with Guinevere. For the nine months and some, Aurora’s attention turned to her next child, which lit the spark that became Elaine’s obsession with being the center of attention. She completely forgot this as she got older, but it wouldn’t make any difference if she remembered.

Her older brother Arthur wasn’t really competition for attention, but Elaine twigged on when her mother always took her side in things. Arthur had to be good and have good manners, he had to be the perfect knight for his lady when he grew up! And Aurora loved Elaine, so obviously Elaine considered herself to already be a good girl with good manners, and the perfect lady. The more she adopted this identity, the less she could stand other things to compromise that identity. Due to her mother’s coddling, however, she never grew the self-discipline needed to actually achieve great things, and so she resorted to trickery to make everything appear exactly as she wanted it.

With Guinevere it was different. Arthur might as well have been the middle child for all the attention he got, but Guinevere had their father wrapped around her little finger. And because Gavin’s attention spent the most time on Guin, Elaine began to frame her as a “bad girl” who was “unladylike” — because by her understanding, those were the things that made her perfect and earned love. If she framed Guin as being bad, surely Gavin’s attention would turn to Elaine. However, this was not the case, and in fact had the opposite effect. The more she accused Guin, the more worried and focused on Guin their father became. This led to Elaine sparing very little to harass Guin, because she hated her for stealing the attention that Elaine considered rightfully hers.

Internal Conflicts

She hates that she doesn’t have the same amazing body as her mother, but is too lazy to do anything about it. She tends to “go on diets” and then fault her mother for making or buying her food that “isn’t on her diet” even though she can’t stick to it for anything.

Elaine hates anyone getting attention but her. She sneakily started a trend at school for calling her brother “Arthur Aardvark” because lots of the girls liked him. She did it in a way that made the girls her friends while also isolating her brother from boys and girls alike. She will do anything for attention, and hates being ignored or put in second place more than anything.

External Conflicts

Elaine tries to turn Gavin on Guin by saying she signed a bad contract for a job that makes her live in isolation because she was in a huff over Elaine offending her over something small. This sparks Gavin’s interference in Guin’s job at Grimm’s Keep.

Elaine catches Guin in Or’Yuhenal’s arms after the argument and takes a video of them and shows it around town with the “it’s a secret” gasoline thrown on the fire, leading up to the main conflict.
