• Anatomy & Physiology
Fezagons are mammal-like dragon creatures covered in iridescent feathers and down. They have long bodies and short bird-like legs, with a fan of feathers attached to their backs (aka "train"), inspired by peacocks. The tail of a Fezagon is essentially a giant feather by itself, the tail acts like the shaft (rachis) of the feather and the feather vane is attached to the tail. They are about as big as a tiger, but the feather fan and long tail make them appear bigger.

The Fezagon species has a lot of sexual dimorphism. Males are generally bigger, have spurs on their lower legs, and have a lot more vibrant plumage and a bigger feather fan. Females usually have darker and more desaturated plumage that consists of more browns, beige, and grays. Newly hatched Fezagons are covered in desaturated brown, beige, or gray down and their plumage will grow out once they reach maturity.
• Reproduction & Life Cycle
Male Fezagons use their vibrant feathers in courtship displays, and the individuals with the most vibrant feathers are the most successful since it's an indication of their health and fitness. The female Fezagon will lay 1 to 3 eggs that take about 40 days to hatch, both parents will take turns to incubate and look after their eggs. After only a few days after hatching, the hatchlings can walk and get more acclimated with their own and other family groups and start playing with other young Fezagons. Hatchlings need help from their parents for three years before they become independent and adolescents stay with their families until they reach maturity at the age of 10, females will stay with their old family groups while males tend to form their own groups and leave. These groups of nomad male Fezagons are called "ostentations", they travel to search for new Fezagon groups and to find a mate.

A Fezagon lives for about 40 to 45 years.
• Diet & Feeding
Fezagons are omnivores but prefer eating fruit, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. They also really like protein-rich foods and will seek it out through insect larvae, dark leafy greens, and legumes.
• Behavior & Temprament
Fezagons are very social creatures and multiple family groups of Fezagons often congregate together in the same spot, and will even care for each other's offspring. They will gather in open fields and glades on sunny days to sunbathe, when they do they lay down towards the sun and raise their feather fan to catch the sun's rays. They are a very proud and confident species and spend a lot of time grooming their own and other's plumage.

They are generally a very friendly species but are cautious around strangers, and they might even get aggressive if you get too close or approach their offspring if they don't know you. But if you have proved to them that you are no threat they will treat you as any other member of their family group and will proudly show off their child to you. However, if you break that trust, you're not getting any second chances.

They seem to have an almost human-like appreciation for art and beauty, they're often found around old ruins to look at the architecture and look for artifacts.
• Trivia
  • Fezagons might have been the first original species I ever made, I'm guessing I made them sometime around 2008 during my early DeviantArt days. Everyone had their own original dragon species and I was no different.
  • I more or less had my own made-up language back then and "Feza" meant feather. Their name is a combination of "Feza" and "Dragon", so their name means "Feather Dragon".
  • They are very much inspired by peacocks.
